If you enjoy being part of something special, then bring your energy and come grow with us!SUMMARYThe Machinist II is responsible for forming component parts by operating fabricating equipment, determining sequence of operations, preparing machines for production, regulating machining, producing parts, maintaining specifications and stock inventory, resolving production problems, and ensuring operation of equipment. This position is also responsible for performing accurate measurements for layout of parts, properly operating lathe, milling machine, and CNC equipment, properly operating fabrication machines (shear, press brake, drills, punches, etc.) for the manufacture of metal parts, reading assembly and detail drawings, and barcode scanning of material and labor to job travelers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSSet up and operate lathe and mill machines.Set up, program, and operate CNC equipment as needed.Determine sequence of operations by studying drawings, specifications, and work orders.Prepare machines for production by positioning and securing fixtures, stops, guides, and turntables.Produce parts by locating and marking reference points on work piece with rule, compass, template, etc. Position or align work piece against stops and guides or with die.Regulate machines by setting and adjusting controls.Operate equipment, including drilling, reaming, tapping, broaching, grinding, drill sharpening and tool grinding and sharpening.Maintain specifications by observing operations, detecting malfunctions, inspecting parts, and adjusting controls.Operate miscellaneous hand tools, calipers, gauges, rules, templates, dies, and any other tools required to perform the job.Other duties as assigned, including special projects.QUALIFICATIONSRequired:High Diploma or GEDTwo years comparable work experiencePreferred:Trade School GraduateSKILS REQUIREMENTSProficient at using manufacturing equipment controls and instruments to monitor progress and determine actions.Extensive knowledge of manufacturing methods, processes, and procedures.Strong working knowledge of quality and inspection requirements, manufacturing processes, and measurement techniques.Proficient at drilling, reaming, tapping, broaching, off-hand grinding, sharpening, low tolerance lathe and mill work. Proficient at comprehending basic set up techniques to perform these duties.Ability to set up and run any given job with minimal instruction or supervision (precision bearing and sleeve work, finish rotors, cylinders, end plates, and CNC machines).Ability to learn the set up and operation of lower priority jobs such as milling keyways and machining of stubs.Proficient at using precision measuring instruments and hand tools. Demonstrated competency with tools required for mechanical inspection (calipers, gauges, etc.) and the ability to keep tools functional, in good working order, and calibrated at appropriate intervals.Ability to read drawings.Follow directions and cooperate, work, and communicate with coworkers, supervisors, subordinates, and/or outside contacts.Proficient at or have the ability to read, write, understand, and speak English.Ability to work with minimal supervision.OTHERWork EnvironmentOperates in a manufacturing environment.Requires the use of personal protective equipment (such as safety glasses with side shields, safety footwear, hearing protection, etc.).Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.Physical RequirementsLifting, carrying, and/or moving up to 70 lbs.
