Recently, Michele Schiele, a BU alumna, has been appointed as the Senior Vice President of Advancement by President Melissa Gilliam, to lead our community efforts. Michele previously served at Stanford University and the University of Chicago, securing over $1.4 billion in philanthropic revenue at Stanford.

Position Overview:

In July 2024, BU's new strategic platform, focusing on convergence across learning, research, and schools, will shape our future. The Vice President for Schools and Colleges (VPSC) will lead fundraising and engagement efforts across BU's 17 schools and colleges, including the Faculty of Computing and Data Sciences. The role involves strategic leadership, relationship management, and direct solicitation of high-level prospects.

The VPSC will oversee relationships with various schools and centers, develop fundraising strategies, and work closely with deans and faculty to identify opportunities aligned with BU’s strategic vision. The role includes managing a portfolio of 20-25 leadership prospects and collaborating with other senior leaders to advance the campaign goals.

Essential Functions:

Build a community among philanthropic leaders across schools through regular convenings.

Provide leadership for all schools' development activities, including cultivating and soliciting gifts, supporting advisory boards, and strategic planning.

Partner with relevant teams to ensure effective moves management and fundraising efforts.

Manage relationships with high-level prospects and achieve fundraising targets.

Collaborate with the Campaign Director to align school efforts with university-wide campaigns.

Oversee budgets and departmental operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

Proven success in strategic fundraising, particularly with deans and faculty, and experience in a complex, matrixed organization.

Ability to conduct feasibility studies and align fundraising priorities across multiple units.

Excellent communication, leadership, and management skills, with experience managing teams and budgets.

Strong attributes including integrity, sound judgment, creativity, and empathy.

Willingness to travel extensively, including internationally, and work flexible hours.
