Meta
Electrical Engineer, Reality Labs Research, Hardware Engineering
Meta, Redmond, Washington, United States, 98052
Summary:
At Meta’s Reality Labs Research, our goal is to make world-class consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Come work alongside industry-leading scientists and engineers to create the technology that makes VR and AR pervasive and universal. Join the adventure of a lifetime as we make science fiction real and change the world. We are a world-class team of researchers and engineers creating the future of augmented and virtual reality, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. And just as personal computers have done over the past 45 years, AR and VR will ultimately change everything about how we work, play, and connect. We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to help with our mission to accelerate AR and AI from a human perspective. In our current pipeline, a multitude of sensing components, including image sensors, microphones, and inertial measurement units are installed on the headset prototypes in order to collect a rich suite of information that reflects the user's physical state, with an emphasis on modality synchronicity to push the state of the art in egocentric AI research, including the subfields of computer vision, robotics, and contextual AI.This role will handle circuit simulation and modeling, schematics capture, and layout design involving high-speed digital systems and programmable logic, as well as the use of multi-GHz digital test equipment. You will work in a cross-functional team including electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, as well as design and research experts.
Required Skills:
Electrical Engineer, Reality Labs Research, Hardware Engineering Responsibilities:
Design electrical engineering solutions for novel VR/AR devices and systems
Establish and conduct collaborations with internal and external technology partners and vendors
Co-lead the engineering of large and complex multidisciplinary hardware projects
Discover new trends and solutions in high speed interconnects, such as those based on MIPI, USB, PCIe, and Ethernet
Apply novel engineering solution to power/size/thermal requirements
Contribute hands-on to developing schematics, guiding board layout, assembly, testing, debugging, and integration of multi-component electrical systems, as well as understand configuration options for RTL for programmable logic
Understand how different design tradeoffs will affect the end-to-end project. Communicate and discuss those tradeoffs with stakeholders to achieve the appropriate balances
Identify project risks, provide recommendations for mitigation in various areas such as cost / schedule / design robustness / manufacturing challenges / etc
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or a related field
5+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering or related industry
Experience designing, measuring and debugging low and high speed communication interfaces, such as MIPI, USB, PCIe, I2C, UART, SPI, and I2S from both an electrical design and communications protocol perspective
Experience with schematic and high-speed board design using Cadence OrCAD, Altium, or equivalent, targeting HDI design
Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, high-speed digital test equipment, logic analyzers, and function generators
Experience with basic programming skills in languages such as Python or C++, including data analysis, scripting, and automation
Understand hardware design phases from ideation through manufacturing and functional usage
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Experience owning research hardware engineering design and execution tasks
Experience with sensors, such as cameras, lidars, proximity sensors, microphones, IMUs, and depth sensors
Experience with battery-powered low-power systems
Experience collaborating effectively and rapidly outside of core technical specialty
Experience designing consumer products
Experience in analog and digital design simulation
MS degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
Experience with designing hardware systems for computer vision applications
2 + years of experience in research or advanced development
Experience of designing electrical systems with very hard power, weight, thermal and compute constraints
Experience with wireless technologies (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC) and RF circuit design principles, RF PCB design, and RF simulation tools
Experience with rapid prototyping, leveraging existing designs and representative components / models
