Job Description Salary: 55,000 - 85,000 Annually Position Summary

Wiginton Fire Systems is seeking an experienced and motivated Design Manager to lead our design team in Charlotte, NC. This role is critical in ensuring our fire protection system designs are accurate, code-compliant, and clearly communicated to our installation teams. The Design Manager is responsible for assigning design work, managing workflow, supporting project execution, and fostering a high-performing design department aligned with branch goals. Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all design activities to ensure timely and accurate production of fire protection system drawings and documentation. Assign design tasks strategically to team members to maximize efficiency and project performance. Collaborate closely with sales, project managers, and field leadership to ensure project scopes are clearly understood and implemented correctly. Participate in pre-design and pre-construction meetings to support accurate job planning and coordination. Manage and review shop drawings by project specifications, NFPA standards, and local code requirements. Maintain and adjust design schedules to align with project timelines and resource availability. Train and mentor junior designers, providing coaching, technical support, and professional development. Communicate with other trades to coordinate system layouts and prevent design conflicts. Monitor material flow and cost impact as it relates to the design scope and construction timeline. Support the branch's operational success by ensuring all design team members follow company policies, safety protocols, and compliance requirements. Take an active role in employee performance management, including coaching and corrective action when needed. Ensure all company design tools, equipment, and software are properly maintained and used effectively. Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Charlotte Branch Manager and oversees the daily operations of the Design Department. Qualifications & Experience

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 3 years of fire sprinkler design experience. Strong understanding of fire protection design standards, especially NFPA. Proficiency with AutoCAD and hydraulic calculation software. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver’s license and ability to meet insurance requirements. Preferred: 5+ years of experience in fire protection design. NICET Level III Certification or higher. Prior supervisory or team lead experience. Physical & Mental Demands

Primarily an office-based role (90-100% sitting, computer-based tasks). Occasional travel to job sites, client meetings, or other branches as needed. Requires attention to detail, strong time management, and problem-solving abilities. Must be able to safely climb ladders and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting construction sites. Tools & Technology
