Boston Harbor City Cruises is seeking an
Assistant Port Engineer
for our Boston Harbor operations. About the Opportunity : The Assistant Port Engineer will assist with the maintenance and repair of the company's motor vessels. They will report directly to the company's division Port Engineer in Boston. About You : This person should be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System. Essential Duties & Responsibilities : Monitor the preventative maintenance program for the vessels they are responsible for. Alert the Port Engineer to machinery or vessel systems needing repair. Perform and be responsible for preventative maintenance and repair work as directed by the Port Engineer. Conduct preventative engine maintenance, including machinery oil and filter changes for diesel engines, generators, water jet propulsion equipment, and marine reduction gears. Handle engine and generator heavy maintenance such as valve timing, injector changes, cylinder head, and liner changes. Overhaul water jets, including jet hubs, cylinders, impellers, and pumps. Repair vessel piping and plumbing, including pipes, valves, tanks, and pumps. Assist with machinery rigging for major repairs and new installations. Troubleshoot and repair low and high voltage electrical systems, generators, motors, sensors, and wiring. Perform drydock repairs on vessel drivelines, water jets, couplings, shafts, and propellers. Document and monitor maintenance and repairs using the company’s web-based program, Wheelhouse. Perform additional duties as assigned. Requirements & Qualifications : Training from a maritime academy or machinery trade school, with relevant experience. 3-5 years of experience working on diesel vessels or related machinery systems. Familiarity with motor vessels, diesel engines, and operational support systems. Training and experience with piping, electrical systems, drive trains, shafts, reduction gears, hydraulics, and water jet support systems. A merchant mariner's marine engineer's license is preferred but not required. This is a shore-side position; candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, early mornings, or evenings as needed. Must be physically fit to handle heavy machinery and work in tight engine room spaces.
