Job Snapshot Why We're Here We believe heartfelt, human connections make people's lives better, especially the people who work here. Our founder, Bill Kimpton, rebelled against impersonal, generic hospitality that makes people feel disconnected. He initiated a new boutique hotel standard where people could connect from the heart. That remains our purpose today. Your work here has meaning. You're here to improve the lives of coworkers, guests, owners, and communities. Together, we make that happen. Every day, you can make a difference in your own way, and you'll experience the same in return. It all starts with you. How We're Different Our San Francisco-born entrepreneurial spirit and zest for life started this culture in 1981, and it continues today. It all flows from you—the lively, rebellious, genuine you—with your diverse background, talents, experiences, and personality. We fully welcome and celebrate this because when people can be themselves at work, they shine. We seek out and celebrate people of all kinds who share a knack for creativity and self-leadership—those who don't need to be told what to do to get things done and have an innate passion for making others' lives better. This creates a work environment that's quirky, irreverent, exciting, uncommon, empowering, and downright exceptional. Guests feel it; you'll feel it too. What You'll Do In this role, you'll work with the Regional Director of Engineering and the property General Manager to supervise the Engineering Department. Responsibilities include maintaining all equipment, systems, and building components. You'll have management and decision-making authority for daily operations and leading property engineering teams. Some of your responsibilities include: Operate, repair, and maintain all pumps, boilers, motors, chillers, electrical and refrigeration systems, lighting, hotel appliances, and the physical plant. Paint surfaces and equipment, perform minor wall repairs, and touch up furniture. Perform minor construction, repair lock and key systems, and replace lightbulbs, fixtures, televisions, and radios. Lead staff by conducting performance evaluations, holding monthly meetings, leading training on technical and safety systems, and building your team. Maintain a positive relationship with the People & Culture Department. Maintain par stocks of essential parts and materials, and notify your supervisor when parts are needed, including purchasing. Keep accurate logs of equipment tests, repairs, maintenance, and reports. Ensure professional contacts with project contractors and salespeople, in line with Kimpton Group standards. What You Bring A high school diploma; trade school experience preferred. 4+ years of hotel maintenance/engineering experience, with 2+ years in management. High-rise Fire Safety, CFC, and chemical testing certifications. Proficiency in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, locksmith, refrigeration, welding, boiler maintenance, chillers, and carpentry, with proven electrical and mechanical aptitude. Ability to read blueprints and quickly define areas. Proficiency in MS Office and basic platforms. Basic management skills and sound decision-making ability.
