Job Profile Summary
Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel provides legal support on matters arising from the College’s operations. This role advises administrators, faculty, and staff on legal risk, compliance with federal and state laws, and College policies and procedures. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and legal documents; and managing the contract review and tracking process.
The Associate General Counsel oversees the College’s response to public records requests, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and timelines. The role also supports ongoing contract management efforts, including advising on risk mitigation and providing legal insight during contract development and negotiation.
Additional duties include monitoring and advising on compliance with regulatory requirements, analyzing legal implications of new or revised policies, and drafting and implementing College policies and procedures. The position collaborates with departments across the institution to align practices with legal standards and institutional goals and maintains up-to-date knowledge of laws impacting higher education. This role also provides guidance on student-related matters such as policy interpretation, investigations, and compliance processes.
Minimum Requirements :
Law degree from an accredited law school.
Member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
Three or more years of legal experience.
Strong understanding of Florida’s Sunshine Law and public records requirements.
Experience with contract management software such as Cobblestone preferred.
Law Review or journal experience preferred.
Essential Functions :
Provides high-level legal counsel to the College on a broad range of issues, including student matters, litigation, compliance, and institutional risk.
Drafts, reviews, and advises on contracts, policies, procedures, and other legal documents supporting College operations.
Supports the College’s response to student complaints, investigations, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Offers guidance and legal insight on improving business processes related to contracting and risk management.
Develops and conducts legal training and preventive law initiatives across the College.
Collaborates with academic and administrative units on policy development, interpretation, and implementation.
Supports effective contract administration, including advising on contractual terms and ensuring alignment with institutional interests.
Performs related legal duties as assigned.

Strong research and problem-solving skills; intellectually curious and motivated by complex challenges.
Proven critical thinking and analytical capabilities; comfortable working on a small legal team with a high-volume workload.
