Position Summary: This position reports to the Associate Director of Animal Protocol Support and Assurance (APSA). It provides professional support to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), research staff, and APSA staff to ensure compliance with humane care and use standards for animals in research and education. Key Responsibilities: Advise and educate faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and technical staff on protocol submissions. Review scientific methodologies against institutional and regulatory standards published by USDA, NIH, and other authorities. Evaluate incoming protocols, amendments, and reports for completeness and compliance. Draft clear and concise correspondence to investigators, addressing concerns and technical questions of the IACUC efficiently. Participate as a full voting member of the IACUC, engaging in protocol reviews, noncompliance assessments, and approval of new or modified protocols. Contribute to IACUC activities such as semiannual facility inspections, policy reviews, and programmatic assessments. Potentially supervise staff within the Animal Protocol Support and Assurance group. Review grant applications involving animal use to confirm IACUC approval. Manage document control systems, ensuring accuracy, organization, and confidentiality. Prepare for audits by maintaining proper documentation. Identify opportunities to improve departmental workflows and efficiency, proposing actionable solutions. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Experience
At least five years of relevant experience required.
