Principal Software Engineer, Enterprise
Anaconda is seeking a talented Principal Engineer to join our rapidly growing company. This is an excellent opportunity for you to leverage your experience and skills and apply it to the world of data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
What You'll Do
Drive technical strategy for advanced Python runtime solutions, including interpreter enhancements, performance optimization, and enterprise-grade tooling.
Solve deep, systemic Python challenges at scale to better support enterprise python use.
Partner with enterprise customers and open-source communities as a technical liaison, influencing the direction of Python tooling and infrastructure.
Serve as the organizational expert on the Python runtime, using your technical expertise to influence technical decisions for the Anaconda Distribution and across the portfolio.
What You Need:
15+ years of professional experience in software engineering with significant Python expertise
10+ years of experience developing production systems in Python outside of web development (e.g., infrastructure, orchestration, systems tooling)
5+ years of experience contributing to open-source software
5+ years of experience building or maintaining distributed systems or job orchestration tools
5+ years of experience authoring or maintaining Python packages or libraries used in production
3+ years of experience maintaining or contributing to the CPython interpreter or standard library
Authorship or co-authorship of at least two accepted Python Enhancement Proposals (PEPs), as listed on python.org/dev/peps
Experience developing Python system-level features such as interpreter components, import system modifications, or concurrency mechanisms
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
What will make you stand out:
Recognized as a core contributor to the Python programming language, with commit access to the CPython repository and a member of the core team as listed on https://devguide.python.org/core-team/team-log/
Author or co-author of 5 or more accepted Python Enhancement Proposals (PEPs)
Prior collaboration with Python Steering Council members on language design or performance initiatives
Direct experience leading or contributing to Faster CPython, subinterpreter architecture, or per-interpreter GIL efforts
Experience presenting technical talks or keynotes at international Python conferences (e.g., PyCon US, PyCon APAC), especially on topics related to CPython internals, the Global Interpreter Lock (GIL), or multi-core Python
Demonstrated success in building or optimizing Python developer tooling for enterprise use
Experience designing and maintaining Python-based distributed job systems used in production environments
Technical leadership in environments involving GPU hardware, PCIe-based devices, or low-level system testing, especially when integrating with Python
Track record of mentoring open-source contributors within the Python ecosystem
