The Interpretive Coordinator (IC) oversees interpretation at Zoo New England and its mission to inspire people to protect and sustain the natural world for future generations. The IC ensures the quality of guest engagement and interactions, facilitates staff and volunteer training on interpretative interactions, programs, and signage across Franklin Park and Stone Zoo. The IC develops and implements training programs, interpretation graphics, and supervises interpretive efforts. As part of the Education Department, the IC will facilitate educational programs and events, run chats and experiences, assist with partnership programming, and conduct offsite outreach. Duties and Responsibilities
Produce, write, and review interpretive content for platforms such as the interpretive website, CheQRboard, and signage. Work independently and collaboratively. Serve on signage team, updating exhibit graphics and ensuring consistency across divisions. Build and maintain positive relationships with zoo colleagues supporting interpretation. Maintain and enhance biofacts, exhibits, and supplies at Franklin Park and Stone Zoo. Develop and maintain Discovery Carts and Stations for staff use. Coordinate daily interpretive programming, including scheduling with the Education Department and Volunteer Manager, and support the Connector program. Manage interpretation training through workshops and seminars, and develop evaluation systems for quality and professional growth. Oversee interpretive activities to uphold Zoo New England’s mission. Plan and coordinate on-site and off-site interpretive programs. Lead the Connectors team and their interpretive efforts. Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in environmental education or a related field. At least 3 years’ experience in exhibit interpretation. Ability to work independently and in a team. Effective communication skills with diverse audiences. Understanding of interpretation principles like theme development and storytelling. Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, ability to lift 50 pounds, and walk over uneven terrain in all weather conditions. Act as a first responder for first aid emergencies. Maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. Availability from 9:00 to 5:00, Tuesday through Saturday, with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays. Additional Information
