GENERAL SUMMARY:
Functions as Nurse Manager at Brown Surgical Associates. Reports to the Director of Clinical Operations. Collaborate with surgeons, advanced practice practitioners, managers, supervisors, clinical and secretarial staff to facilitate patient-centered care. Primary responsibility to manage the clinical operations of multiple practice locations.
Demonstrates an understanding of the organization, its policies and procedures related clinical practice operations. Displays professionalism while addressing patient issues. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Oversee clinical operations management and assignment of clinical nursing, medical assistant and clinical support staff to meet operational needs. Monitors schedule daily to ensure that appropriate clinical staff are present. Manages medical assistant, registered nurse and clinical staff time off requests in ADP. Serves as the clinical resource on all clinical operational matters and serves as the triage nurse for staff and patient questions. Develop clinical standards to meet practice needs. Develops and implements procedures and best practices to facilitate care for patients in a timely manner. Develop and implement initiatives to improve patient satisfaction. Ensure clinical staff training needs are met. Maintains new employee orientation checklist. Identifies on-going training needs of clinical support staff and conducts regular skills review, annual competency training and testing in all aspects of patient care, including but not limited to:
Obtaining and properly documenting the patient's vital signs, past medical, social and surgical history, allergies and medications in the electronic medical record. Rooming patients and preparing patients for examination and treatment. Reviewing patient forms to ensure the forms are complete and assisting patients with the forms if needed. Assisting physicians during examinations and minor surgical procedures. Practicing proper handling, cleaning and disposal of all contaminated instruments and/or materials in accordance with OSHA guidelines. Performing proper labeling and handling of all surgical specimens, including delivery of specimens to the Pathology Lab. Performing daily checklist review, ex. Date of expiration label, stocking exam rooms, autoclave, cold sterile, etc. Completing appropriate follow up work after the patient visits. Making Post Hospital Discharge Quality follow-up phone calls within 24-48 hours.
Coordinates yearly medical equipment inspections, equipment purchases, set up, in-service training, and ensures that all equipment is adequately maintained. Schedules for maintenance and repairs as necessary. Collaboratively conducts medical assistant, registered nurse and clinical staff employee reviews (probationary, 90-day, annual) to ensure continued proficiency and compliance with defined job performance expectations, policies and procedures. Modifies policies and procedures as needed. Conducts monthly/quarterly clinical staff meetings. Serves as the Brown Surgical Associates OSHA Compliance Officer. Provides staff education related to policies and procedures, documentation of OSHA Incident Reports, and submitting work-related accident/injury annual report to OSHA, per defined guidelines. Prepare and place orders for medical supplies and equipment based on identified needs and established par levels at all BSA locations. Manages Brown Surgical Associates Employee Health Program collaboratively with the Brown University Health Employee Health Department. Develops Brown Surgical Associates Infection Control Plan. Provides practice oversight following CDC guidelines and RI Department of Health recommendations related to teaching, surveillance testing, contact tracing, employee compliance, etc. Submits Annual Hazardous Substance Registration for all BSA Practice locations Oversight of Medical Assistant Externship Program. Represents practice clinical service areas at assigned meetings. Provides direct patient care of vascular vein procedures under the direction and supervision of the surgeon. Prepares the out-patient vascular procedure room - sets up instruments, equipment, and medications. Provides pre- and post-procedure education and teaching for vascular patients related to their procedure and post op instructions. Prepares patient's chart with pertinent clinical information. Obtains and documents a patient's focused physical assessment, related to the procedure and documents in the EMR. Obtains and accurately records patient's vital signs and reports abnormal values to surgeon. Administers medications and treatments to patients in the procedure suite, under the direction of a surgeon. Adheres to Infection control and safety guidelines. Collaborates with the vascular nurse supervisor to develop and implement best practices to facilitate care for patients and improve patient satisfaction. Responsible for other duties, clinical or administrative, as may be assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN) and a current RN License to practice in the state of Rhode Island. BLS required, ACLS preferred. Experience in a medical-surgical office setting required. Experience in office procedures preferred. Knowledge of sterile technique, OSHA guidelines, Universal Precautions, and proper use of personal protective equipment. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes. Computer literate with working knowledge of Electronic Medical Record and computerized appointment scheduling systems. Required to travel to Brown Surgical Associates satellite offices. Ability to work as a team member. Well-organized with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Empathetic with patient needs and concerns. Exceptional interpersonal skills. Professional expertise and knowledge through participation in appropriate educational activities. Adhere to HIPAA Guidelines. Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services. Ability to walk, sit, and stand for long periods of time, ability to lift to 20 pounds.
