Welcome to the Santa Maria-Bonita School District website. We are the largest school district in Santa Barbara County with about 17,500 pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students. In the heart of the coastal agricultural area, we celebrate our families and the support they provide to the students of the District. BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform specialized, complex and responsible technical clerical duties; lead, coordinate and organize the functions and activities of clerical personnel in an assigned unit.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Perform specialized, complex and technical clerical work using independent judgment E ; organize, coordinate, and lead clerical personnel in the assigned functional unit of activity E ; analyze materials requiring a thorough familiarity with policies, practices, terminology, and applicable legal provisions of the functional unit E ; maintain and compile a variety of narrative and statistical reports E ; investigate, search, and locate sources of information E ; devise forms to compile and abstract data and determine report formatting E ; independently or in accordance with general instructions, compose correspondence which may include information pertaining to technical data, detailed explanations of law, policies or procedures E ; initiate and receive telephone and personal contact from District staff and the public concerning the technical and responsible functions of the work unit E ; assist in the orientation and training of clerical personnel E ; type from rough draft or notes E ; coordinate the preparation of documents and records for microfilming E ; assist District personnel and the general public in completing forms and documents E ; coordinate the posting of legal, administrative, or highly sensitive and privileged information and data to records and files E ; prepare input data for a computerized information management, storage, and retrieval system and utilize the output reports in the office operational functions E ; operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, typewriter, copier, calculator and other office equipment as assigned E ; establish and maintain various alphabetical, numerical and subject matter files and records; maintain and monitor budget of the assigned functional unit; perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Standard office practices, procedures and equipment; Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary; Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities; Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities; Principles of training and providing work direction; Office management techniques.

Ability to:

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; Compile and verify data and prepare reports; Operate office machines including a computer and applicable software to enter data, maintain records and generate reports; Prioritize and schedule work; Train and provide work direction to others; Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures; Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions; Work independently with little direction; Plan and organize work; Understand and follow oral and written directions; Perform complex or varied tasks; Compose correspondence and written materials independently; Perform specialized clerical duties in support of program activities; Organize, coordinate, and oversee office activities; Type 50 words per minute.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School supplemented by coursework or training in business practices and office management, other related skill areas and three years of responsible and varied clerical experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment:

Office environment.

Physical Abilities:

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and a variety of office equipment; Sitting or standing for extended periods of time; Kneeling or crouching, reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally and bending at the waist to store and retrieve files; Hearing and speaking to exchange information; Seeing to read various materials; Lifting light objects.
