The Role
The Director, Merchandising, owns Category Management, Merchandising, and Pricing for the Meat, Seafood, Seafood, and Poultry departments. Responsibilities include driving departmental performance through the development of category plans, assessing financial and operational performance, and taking corrective action as needed. The position works closely with our vendor partners, holding vendors accountable to performance metrics, developing strategic vendor relationships, overseeing daily functions, and collaborating cross-functionally for business initiatives that drive mutual growth. The Director of Merchandising will be responsible for leading and developing a team of passionate category experts, and for driving a culture of winning through customer-centricity. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success within a merchandising function, including product sourcing and selection, eCommerce site selling strategies, and the grocery supply chain, and is interested in joining a team of passionate food experts at FreshDirect.
What You'll Do
• P&L Ownership, including Sales, Average Order Size, Gross Margin, and Scrap for their department
• Drive performance of assigned department through the development of category plans to increase sales, assortment to meet customer needs, appropriate space utilization, and balanced approach to pricing and effective product flow.
• Coach and develop a team of Category Managers, driving a culture of achievement and accountability to our financial metrics, as well as accountability to our colleagues
• Continuously evaluate department financial and operational performance against goals and assert corrective strategic action as required.
• Institute processes to constantly improve customer perceptions of the category, manage strategies based on consumer insights for product quality and customer experience.
• Ensure service performance metrics are clear and hold vendors accountable to agreements - sales, service levels, funding, marketing, and compliance for vendors. Assess supplier capabilities and suitability.
• Develop and nurture strategic vendor relationships required to identify synergies, promote mutual growth, maximize resources, ensure consumer focus and capitalize on market opportunities.
• Oversee department(s) daily and weekly functions to ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
• Work cross-functionally with suppliers and internal stakeholders to optimize operations and supply chain
• Collaborate and work cross functionally with various teams in order to effectively drive and execute business initiatives.
• Partner with FSQA team to manage regulatory compliance and respond to food safety issues as they arise within the department and implement preventative actions.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills
• Analytically minded with strong organizational skills
• Excellent attention to detail and exceptional follow-through
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly in Excel
• Significant project management experience, and an ability to manage mid-sized projects
• Demonstrated success developing and building strong teams
• Scope: Strategizes with senior leaders across multiple functions within the Org.
• Autonomy: Becomes strategic lead within team. Strategic partnership required from peers. Input from leadership team required.

The expected compensation for this role is
$135,824-$159,793 , depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be discussed during the interview process.
