For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO) is a non-profit, out-of-school time operating in the communities of Chelsea, Everett, Peabody, Revere and Winthrop. With a mission to support the holistic needs of children, FKO fully believes learning extends well beyond the classroom, and OST Educators are a key component to building life-long learning skills.
In continuing our commitment to developing the next generation of OST educators, we are excited to offer a registered OST (out of school time) Apprenticeship program. This apprenticeship opportunity is unique, in that we are the first in the country to provide a pathway for OST staff to have full-time employment and further their professional growth through a registered Apprenticeship program.
Job Description:
This full-time, paid apprenticeship opportunity offers a blend of online coursework and on-the-job training. This position is responsible for providing a positive, safe, fun and memorable quality experience to all children and families involved with FKO. Apprentices will be responsible for the supervision and care of children. This position will allow apprentices to gain professional growth as an educator in developing classroom, youth development and mentoring skills.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Job responsibilities of this position include, but are to limited to:
• Provide a positive, safe, fun, and memorable quality experience to all children and families involved in FKO's afterschool and summer programs;
• Consistently supervise school-aged children enrolled in the program;
• Implement well-planned, intentional daily enrichment classes and activities;
• Serve as a positive role model and mentor to children enrolled;
• Support Site Director during administrative hours with tasks such as:
o Program Planning: lesson planning, activity/material prep, classroom organizing, cleaning, bulletin board, family engagement, special events;
o Admin: food and nutrition programming (i.e. snack prep, menu creation, snack logs), attendance entering, filing, transportation tasks (i.e. logs, activity prep), supply inventory;
• Facilitate consistent communication with FKO families;
• Adhere to EEC licensing regulations and FKO policies and procedures at all times;
• Strive to achieve FKO goals and operate with organizational values and mission in mind; and
• All other duties as assigned.
Apprenticeship expectations, as required by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, include:
• Complete 150 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI) through participation in IEPD's OST apprenticeship training program and other FKO professional development (approximately 5 hours per week, throughout the school year);
• Complete 2,000 hours of On-the-Job Training (OJT) by maintaining regular attendance and punctualty as a full-time employee;
• Participate in ongoing Community of Practice sessions as an opportunity to share best practices with colleagues and support one another with navigating challenges; and
Meet with your supervisor and/or mentor on a regular basis to discuss goals, check competency levels, and connect coursework to on-the-job training.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
• Must meet EEC OST Minimum Hiring Requirements for Group Leader
• Must be 18 years of age
• Minimum of six months' supervised experience working with school age children (5-14 years of age)
• Must pass MA EEC Background Record Check
• Creative and fun personality to implement curriculum and activities
• Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
• Excited and committed to making a difference in children's lives
Physical Requirements:
• Requires standing for long periods of time, as well as stooping, squatting, and running
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
