Survey Tech

To perform basic land surveying activities for transportation projects in support of VDOT maintenance and construction programs. How you will contribute: Project Activities: Perform land surveying project activities including location, right of way and utilities, and construction phases. Perform survey functions in accordance with project scheduling and in support of VDOT programs. Quality Control: Perform quality control reviews, both in the field and office, to ensure land surveying products are accurate and depict the project controls and data to support the project. Survey Activities: Conduct basic field land surveying activities for transportation projects from scoping to post-construction. Follow VDOT policies and procedures and APELSCIDLA rules and regulations governing land surveying activities. Use a variety of land surveying equipment and tools to locate and record field data. Conduct courthouse research on plats. What will make you successful: Ability to communicate effectively orally and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to perform physically demanding labor, work in all types of terrain and weather conditions. Basic knowledge of field land surveying equipment (data collectors, GPS, robotic total station, levels, etc.). Basic knowledge of land surveying principles and practices. Knowledge of basic mathematical calculations; using algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Knowledge of land surveying instruments and tools, including programmable calculators and electronic data collection equipment. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively orally and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform physically demanding labor, work in all types of terrain and weather conditions. Basic knowledge of field land surveying equipment (data collectors, GPS, robotic total station, levels, etc.). Basic knowledge of land surveying principles and practices to include location, right of way and construction survey activities. Knowledge of basic mathematical calculations using algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Knowledge of surveying instruments and tools, including programmable calculators and electronic data collection equipment. Valid driver's license. Additional Considerations: A combination of training, experience or education in Land Surveying or related field desired. Experience conducting basic land surveying tasks. Land Surveyor in Training certification desired. VDOT employees must abide by VDOTs Code of Ethics and the Commonwealths Standards of Conduct.
