Description
Under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for maximizing station production in a safe and environmentally responsible manner while seeking continuous improvement. This object is accomplished by coordinating numerous tasks carried out by team of skilled hourly workers and communicating those actions with others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is responsible to ensure all safety rules and regulations are followed as well as safe operation of the equipment and units. Ensure all company and station standards and operating procedures are met. This position coordinates and approves the tagging and isolation of equipment for all work groups to enable a safe continuity of repair services. The incumbent closely interacts with dispatching to schedule operating unit activities and keeps them informed of the generating units' capabilities and associated risk. The position supervises the startup and shut down of the generating unit, including coordination of switching. The incumbent supervises the operation of station operating equipment, i.e., boilers, generators, auxiliaries, and relating equipment and is responsible for general housekeeping and cleanliness of the equipment. This position is responsible to ensure that direct reports are properly trained and is accountable for the qualification of direct reports in areas such as safety, proper operating techniques, tagging, etc. to improve skill levels and comply with all environmental permit requirements and Operating the Units within the Environmental Permit limits at all times. This position is also accountable for taking appropriate action to minimize environmental excursions, contain all spills and initiate proper notification to proceed with orderly cleanup. The position interacts with back shift, maintenance team leaders and Water Operators and provides support that may be required in scheduling and prioritization of tasks. This position is the primary plant supervision on the backshifts. The position is required to initiate work notifications and communicate with maintenance on prioritization and scheduling. The incumbent coordinates the conveyance of coal to the station to ensure adequate supply is available for maximum unit generation. This position interfaces with the Scrubber, Water and Coal Handling Operations in real time as needed. Requirements
An Associate's degree or similar training in a technical field is preferred. Commensurate experience plus High School diploma's or GED required. 5+ years related experience required. Demonstration of progressive responsibility and leadership in coal fired power generation positions. 8 years of direct experience in power plant operations may be considered in lieu of a degree, Attention to detail, strong organizational and leadership skills. Ability to work well under pressure, remaining focused and calm in the face of distractions. Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and motivational. Ability and willingness to lead and train subordinates to fully realize maximum team potential in accordance with bargaining unit agreement. Ability to coordinate numerous activities under stress with poise, safely and successfully. Ability to supervise employees on shift. Excellent working knowledge of plant steam, mechanical, electrical, water, environmental and chemical systems and their appropriate integration for efficient and effective production. Knowledge or ability to learn SAP workflow computer application within four months. Working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications. Physical Requirement and Working Conditions:
Normal power plant environment and/or out of doors work environment. (Including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations) Requires rotating on shifts on a 12-hour schedule. Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid Pennsylvania Driver's License. Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant. equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment. Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required. Requires occasional travel outside service area. Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.) Requires operation of a personal computer. May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals. Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
