Based in New York Role Overview:
The Legal Project Manager will plan and generate demand in the US, allocate resources, participate in client matters, monitor workstreams, manage budgets, and enhance client experience through effective project management. This role reports to the Director of Legal Project Management. Responsibilities include: Serve as the primary contact for clients on legal matter management, ensuring clear communication and expectations. Develop and implement detailed matter plans, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables. Support client pitches by explaining how the firm will manage projects efficiently within time, budget, and quality parameters. Collaborate with legal teams, clients, and vendors to ensure seamless progress and communication. Manage resources to optimize matter delivery without compromising quality or timelines. Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies proactively. Track and report on budgets, costs, and resource utilization to maintain financial oversight. Prepare updates, performance metrics, and post-matter analyses for continuous improvement. Streamline processes, reduce inefficiencies, and adopt best practices in matter management. Coordinate with internal departments like Finance, Business Development, and Technology to align on matter requirements.
Qualifications: Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Strong interpersonal skills with experience managing stakeholder relationships and expectations, including influencing high-value stakeholders. Innovative mindset to navigate a rapidly evolving legal landscape.
Experience: At least 7 years in matter management within a law firm, with knowledge of legal processes, fee structures, and client service expectations. Advanced Excel skills for data analysis, financial modeling, and reporting. Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana) is a plus.
Gibson Dunn considers qualified applicants with criminal histories in accordance with local laws. The annual salary range is $175,000 to $230,000, depending on qualifications and operational considerations.
