CONNECTICUT GREEN BANK GRADUATE GEOSPATIAL DATA SCIENCE FALL INTERNSHIP SUMMARY : The Connecticut Green Bank (hereafter "Green Bank") is seeking a Graduate Geospatial Data Science Intern for fall 2025. The Green Bank is a quasi-public authority and the nation's first state-level "Green Bank," leveraging public funds to increase and accelerate private investment in the green economy of Connecticut. Working at the Green Bank means being part of a dynamic team of talented people who are passionate about implementing the green bank model, stimulating the growth and development of clean energy and environmental infrastructure investment in Connecticut, and growing our economy, strengthening our communities, and protecting our environment. We are seeking a currently matriculated graduate student in Geographic Information Systems ("GIS"), computer science, urban planning, or a related field to match their academic work with professional work experience. The Intern will work remotely up to 15 hours per week alongside our Data & Impact team on a variety of geospatial initiatives. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating curriculum, research, and/or practical experience in spatial analysis and visualization. Candidates must not have graduated more than six months prior to the start of their internship. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES : The Intern will be a fully participating member of the Green Bank's Data & Impact team from day one. Individual responsibilities will include: Building interactive GIS data experiences for the Green Bank; Conducting analysis using GIS tools and spatial statistics; Creating new public datasets from Green Bank data; Developing geospatial visualizations to communicate the impact of Green Bank programs; Assisting with various ongoing data engineering and analysis projects within the team based on interest and experience; Collaborating with the Data & Impact team to integrate geospatial insights into program planning and evaluation; Documenting methodologies and preparing reports on geospatial analyses; and, Related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED : The following minimum qualifications in knowledge, skill, and ability are required: Experience with at least one GIS platform (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar); Basic programming skills in Python or R; Familiarity with spatial data analysis techniques; Knowledge of basic cartographic principles; Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders; Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment; Passion for clean energy, sustainability, and the application of GIS in combating climate change. The following qualifications are strongly preferred: Experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online specifically; Experience with energy modeling, forecasting, and analysis for a variety of renewable energy technologies (solar PV, battery storage, etc.) Advanced programming skills in Python or R for spatial analysis; Experience with geospatial databases and data structures; Knowledge of spatial statistics and advanced visualization techniques; Experience creating interactive web maps or dashboards; Previous experience in clean energy, environmental science, or sustainability projects; EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING : Current matriculation in, or recent graduate of (no more than six months past graduation), a graduate program focused on GIS, computer science, urban planning, or a related field. EMPLOYMENT DETAILS : This position reports to the Manager of Data & Impact. This is a remote position up to 15 hours per workweek. The candidate should be located in the Eastern time zone. The dates of the internship should align with the fall academic semester (approximately September – December). The rate of compensation is $37.00 per hour. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for the duration of the position.
