Overview

Responsible for the loss prevention program and patient safety program in the designated facility. Acts as a resource to professional staff, hospital staff, and medical staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Participates in loss prevention and patient safety initiatives. Coordinates investigations of claims and lawsuits, gathers evidence, conducts interviews, reviews medical records, and participates in root cause analysis.
• Reviews incident reports, investigates as needed, recommends corrective actions, and evaluates their effectiveness.
• Trends incidents, claims, and lawsuits; recommends and evaluates corrective actions.
• Identifies risk exposures, recommends control methods, and evaluates their effectiveness.
• Represents risk management and patient safety on relevant committees, providing leadership and guidance.
• Coordinates responses to lawsuits and discovery devices.
• Participates in professional activities related to risk management and patient safety.
• Completes assigned goals.

Requirements, Preferences, and Experience

Education

• Preferred: RN BSN, Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM).
• Minimum: Degree in a health-related field, nursing preferred; proficiency in risk management principles.

Experience

• Preferred: Risk management/patient safety and quality management experience.
• Minimum: 3-5 years of clinical and/or management experience.

Skills

• Knowledge of licensure and accreditation standards.
• Effective communication with medical staff and administration.
• Organizational and problem-solving skills.
