GENERAL SUMMARY: This position is for a PLC-focused Control Systems Engineer supporting Machinery Control Systems (MCS) for the USS ARLEIGH BURKE class of destroyers for the U.S. Navy. The primary responsibilities include hands-on work with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) hardware and software, providing full life-cycle support across fielded systems and Land Based Engineering Sites (LBES). The selected candidate will work directly with ruggedized industrial-grade PLC systems and supporting hardware on a daily basis-participating in integration, troubleshooting, upgrades, and system-level design for current and future MCS variants.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    n
  • n

    Lifecycle support of PLC-based supervisory machinery control systems, including:

    n
  • n
  • n

    Daily interaction with and troubleshooting of PLC hardware and associated field devices

    n
  • n
  • n

    PLC programming, modification, and validation aligned with evolving system requirements

    n
  • n
  • n

    Supporting the design and integration of PLC equipment in shipboard and industrial control environments

    n
  • n
  • n

    Providing technical insight and feedback on future PLC-based system architectures

    n
  • n
  • n

    Reviewing system documentation, logic diagrams, and control narratives for accuracy and completeness

  • n

    Developing and executing test plans and procedures for PLC-controlled systems

  • n

    Supporting both shipboard and LBES PLC software and hardware installation efforts

  • n
  • n

    Assisting with system-level software requirements definition and refinement for PLC-controlled applications

Required Qualifications

n

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Computer Engineering is required; other degrees will be considered based on the candidate's industry experience

  • n

    Minimum of 2 years' experience in electrical or computer engineering for control systems in an industrial or shipboard environment

    n
  • n
  • n

    Minimum of 1 year hands-on experience with PLC systems, including programming and diagnostics

    n
  • n
  • n

    Must be a US Citizen and currently hold or be eligible to obtain a U.S. government security clearance

    n
  • n
  • n

    Hands-on experience with Siemens (S7-1500, TIA Portal, etc.), Allen Bradley (ControlLogix, RSLogix 5000), and/or Rockwell PLC platforms.

  • n

    Strong understanding of PLC logic, control strategies, and ladder/structured text programming

    n
  • n
  • n

    Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and control system drawings

  • n
  • n

    Experienced in using test and diagnostic tools specific to industrial and PLC-based systems

Desired Qualifications

    Experience programming with multiple IEC 61131-3 languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text)

    Familiarity with the IEC 61131-3 standard for PLC programming

    Experience with SCADA or HMI development

    Background in hardware upgrades and modernization of legacy embedded PLC systems

    Familiarity with ISO/IEC/IEEE control system standards

    Basic knowledge of network communications as applied to control systems (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, etc.)

  • n

    Strong technical writing and documentation skills

    Effective communicator with both engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders

Compensation at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is based on full time status. For part time or on-call staff, compensation is proportionately adjusted based on hours worked. While monetary compensation is important, it's just one component of Noblis' total compensation package.
