Position Overview:

We are seeking a Technical Project Lead to enhance our solid rocket motor (SRM) design and manufacturing operations based in Penrose, Colorado, just 35 minutes south of Colorado Springs. In this pivotal role, you will coordinate a dynamic team of design and manufacturing engineers to strategize, implement, and monitor complex projects. Your goal will be to ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within budget, while proactively identifying risks and driving impactful solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive plans, schedules, and tracking tools that facilitate progress towards milestones and goals.
  • Communicate project status and updates effectively to both internal teams and external stakeholders, including government and commercial clients.
  • Define clear milestones and objectives, ensuring an understanding of dependencies between tasks.
  • Analyze risks and issues swiftly to understand their impact on project outcomes and provide technical rationale.
  • Identify and articulate risks, issues, and opportunities that could affect project schedule, cost, performance, and quality.
  • Engage in continuous learning to effectively communicate with technical teams and craft accurate work plans.
  • Take ownership of project success by implementing interdisciplinary solutions to complex challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Solid engineering background across diverse disciplines such as design, analysis, manufacturing, operations, or testing.
  • Proficiency in creating project plans, schedules, and tracking tools.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of presenting to various audience sizes.
  • Experience in coordinating cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional time management abilities with a history of meeting deadlines.
  • Keen understanding of industry-standard risk management practices.
  • Experience in developing documentation and tracking procedures for team projects.
  • Comfortable leading teams of 15+ through intricate design and manufacturing processes.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in propulsion, energetics, explosives, or related Department of Defense projects.
  • Proficient with mechanical or chemical manufacturing processes and quality inspection.
  • BS or MS in mechanical, aerospace, chemical, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision required.
  • Eligible to obtain State and Federal explosives licenses (must be 21+ years of age, pass drug tests, and background checks).
  • Familiar with Solid Rocket Motors, solid propulsion technologies, and aerospace/defense systems.
  • Experienced in using scheduling tools like MS Project or Smartsheet.
  • Knowledge of agile planning methodologies.
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes, production plant layout, and process improvements.
  • Experienced in formal DoD engineering reviews such as SRR, PDR, and CDR.
  • Understanding of risk and issue management frameworks.
  • Experience with defense-related contracts and configuration management.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable with various physical activities including sitting, standing, climbing, and crawling.
  • Exposure to industrial environments and potential hazards.
  • Willingness to travel 5-10% as needed.

Employment Type: This is a full-time position with a 9/80 working schedule.
