Overview
The Executive Director is responsible for the effective operation of Surgical and Orthopaedic Services at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, and Methodist West Hospital. The role also includes oversight of employed CRNAs at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Laser Eye Center, and Iowa Methodist Medical Center Endoscopy.
As a member of the UnityPoint Health Des Moines operations team, the Executive Director will lead the assigned service line, focusing on quality, service, growth, and fiscal accountability, and will be accountable for achieving results outlined in the annual strategic plan. The Executive Director creates a vision and strategic direction for the service lines aligned with UPH-DMs mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
With support from the administrative team and strategic plan, the Executive Director is responsible for developing and implementing new programs, exploring growth opportunities, and guiding the development of patient-centered services that set standards in quality, service, and cost. The role involves acting as an expert resource and representative for the service line among healthcare providers, partners, and students affiliated with the system.
The Executive Director fosters an environment that encourages team members to acquire new skills and promotes trust and decision-making at the staff level.

Responsibilities
Serve as the key leader and role model, balancing team and individual responsibilities, and perform managerial duties to lead the areas of responsibility.
Act as the primary business leader, overseeing administrative functions such as budget development, marketing, strategic planning, and building partnerships.
Lead customer service and quality initiatives; evaluate outcomes and data to continuously improve processes, procedures, and systems, integrating appropriate technology.
Maintain knowledge of the current and future healthcare environment; liaise with providers to ensure patient care services, procedures, protocols, and policies are met; oversee clinical services including standards of care, clinical pathways, and staffing plans.
Represent UPH-DM on various committees and boards, supporting patient care and community services.
Organize OR Governance Committee meetings and agendas.
Lead co-management agreements for IMMC, MWH, and ILH.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Masters degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
Five years of progressively responsible management experience in hospital, outpatient, or clinical settings.
Ability to develop positive relationships with physicians, management, and the community.
Proven success in improving performance.
Excellent communication, management, and program development skills.
License(s)/Certification(s)
Must hold a current Registered Nurse license in Iowa.
Professional certification in a relevant specialty is preferred.
Valid drivers license for work-related driving.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Fluent in English, with strong reading, writing, and speaking skills.
Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsing.
