Job Summary

The Department of Surgery within the College of Medicine is seeking a Business Intelligence Developer III.

This position will regularly advise faculty and staff in the design, planning, and implementation of well engineered reports, data tables or data analysis that enriches quality improvement, research, and operational productivity and reliability.

This position will also be responsible for building a deep understanding of business area activities through regular engagements, providing guidance, building and analyzing Epic reporting tools including Workbench, SlicerDicer, and Radar, and developing complex SQL scripts, views, and stored procedures.

Additionally, this position will fulfill departmental requests for ad-hoc reporting and analysis. Responsible for the development of data products and assets for the department and affiliates including data mining, modeling and analytics, data exploration and visualization, self-service ad hoc reporting, recurring/scheduled reporting, dashboards, and scorecards. This position will leverage version control coding software provided by PACE, apply firm understanding and advanced knowledge of numerical methods or data analysis in developing custom products to meet faculty and staff needs, ensures data accuracy on Spoke generated data, actively participate in an analytics community of developers and analysts to share knowledge and to distribute innovation between one Spoke and Hub to other Spokes.

This position will provide regular communications to PIs/stakeholders with project updates and demonstrate subject matter expertise & validation for Epic native reporting/analytics & enterprise prioritized reporting/analytics when related to the Spoke.

Additional responsibilities will include completing and maintaining Epic Cogito training requirement to support access and membership in the Hub and Spoke model with the Performance Analytics Center of Excellence (PACE). Also responsible for pursuing additional training to support the department (i.e. Epic Clinical Data Model, Cosmos Certification). Submit (& is SME) to data dictionaries, data catalogs, & enterprise metric catalog (i.e. Blue Book) on behalf of Spoke. This position will also follow code design and development guides provided by PACE, submit Spoke-related reporting/analytics for promotion to production through PACE Change Advisory Board(CAB), actively participate in weekly Analytics Demand Management, take initiative to continuously develop knowledge base and skill level by participating in continuing education programs, trainings, classes and seminars and contribute to continuous improvement and help identify workflows for improvement.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Experience using SQL, data processing pipelines, configuration management, and reporting/dashboard tool such as PowerBI

Expertise using libraries and services such as message passing and shared memory APIs, advanced database services, pub/sub services, machine learning and big data transfer tools/services.

Expertise in creating effective user interfaces for databases and visualization
