Position Description:
The Spatial Database Administrator (SDBA) is responsible for leading the development, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise geospatial and alphanumeric databases in both on-premises and cloud environments. This includes administering Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL/PostGIS instances and implementing workflows for spatial data editing, publishing, and security compliance.
The SDBA will support Task 5.4 (GIS Enterprise Database Administration and Web Service Development), and is expected to collaborate closely with other data engineers, GIS specialists, and NPS stakeholders to ensure database reliability, security, and performance. Duties also include publishing web services, monitoring backups and patching, ensuring compliance with Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements, and participating in disaster recovery planning.
Qualifications:
Minimum 4 years of experience with enterprise geospatial databases (MS SQL Server and PostGIS/PostgreSQL). At least 3 years of experience publishing and managing geospatial web services via ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, or open-source GIS platforms. Demonstrated expertise in SQL, T-SQL, and/or PL/pgSQL. Experience with performance tuning, database configuration, versioning, and metadata management. Familiarity with cloud-based geospatial services (Azure or AWS preferred). Understanding of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and participation in ATO compliance activities preferred. Worksite / Travel / Clearance / Citizenship:
Place of Performance: Remote authorized; periodic work at NPS Denver Federal Center (Lakewood, CO) may be required.
Travel: May be necessary for support or coordination; reimbursed in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations (FTR).
Clearance Requirement: National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) required prior to performance.
Security Clearance Requirement:
Must pass National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI); Performance cannot begin until clearance adjudication is completed
Citizenship Requirement: Must meet federal suitability screening requirements (U.S. citizenship assumed).
Position is contingent upon award.
