Dive Safety Officer - Part Time

If you are an experienced scuba instructor with a passion for scuba diving, get ready to dive into this great opportunity at the Indianapolis Zoo! We're currently seeking a part-time Dive Safety Officer to join our team. The Dive Safety Officer is responsible for the development, management, and enforcement of procedures that ensure the safety of the diving-related operations in accordance with Cal-OSHA and AZA standards. The ideal candidate is committed to the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. To be successful in this role, a strong knowledge of dive activities and training techniques is essential. What You'll Do Alert dive program administrator and dive committee about safety concerns Participate in the Zoo's Dive Safety Committee (DSC) Evaluate dive safety procedures and make recommendations Evaluate Emergency Action Plans and dive emergency responses and make recommendations for improvements Assess results of dive emergency drills and recommend or enact changes Ensure the Zoo's dive program meets or exceeds AZA and Cal-OSHA requirements Write and edit Emergency Action Plan and Site-Specific information Help oversee dive program records including but not limited to dive logs, equipment maintenance logs, diver training records, and emergency drill reports Make recommendations to dive committee concerning changes in policy, standards and regulations, changes in training programs and purchase of new equipment Maintain membership in ADPA (Association of Dive Program Administrators) Instruct and teach SCUBA skills and knowledge as required, either one-on-one or in a group setting Schedule and lead skill practices, workshops, classes, or training sessions as required Instruct and teach First Aid, CPR, AED, and oxygen administration classes as required Work with department representatives to plan, schedule, and run dive emergency drills Participate in dive activities by acting as any member of the dive team such as diver, DPIC (Designated Person in Charge), tender, or standby diver. Give instruction and training on the Zoo's dive procedures Perform orientation sessions and orientation dives for new candidates Train staff divers to perform orientation dives and skills assessment as required What We're Looking For Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a professional scuba instructor Background in marine science or safety preferred Working knowledge of water safety and lifesaving equipment Working knowledge of SCUBA equipment and equipment maintenance Working knowledge of OSHA, AAUS, Cal-OSHA, and/or AZA standards relating to SCUBA diving SCUBA Instructor certification from a nationally recognized certifying dive agency First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen administration certifications Display a positive attitude and always interacts with staff members positively Additional Information This is part-time position with the possibility of varying shifts due to scheduling and peak season demands.
