Senior Accountant
The successful candidate will ensure that the University effectively manages, protects, and leverages its financial resources. The incumbent will be responsible for the collection and reconciliation of third-party accounts. They will audit and monitor third-party accounts and ensure adherence to financial policies. They will ensure compliance with federal, state and governing body statutes and policies. They will handle and resolve issues by determining the appropriate course of action, including making proper adjustments promptly. This position requires critical thinking skills, conscientiousness, and perseverance. The candidate hired will be one of the faces of the department to external parties, providing customer service and representing the professionalism of the Bursar's Office and the University of Arizona to students and third-party agencies. Duties & Responsibilities: Performs complex accounting activities related to third-party agency billing in accordance with accounting principles and standards to control the institution's financial resources and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements. Invoices third-party agencies on behalf of the University for payments to third-party sponsors which includes employers and various branches of the military. Manages and maintains an organized billing system for third-party payments. Gathers student financial data to create and maintain invoices. Submits invoices electronically, often through online portals, for payment. Collects payments from third-party payers using follow-up efforts. Responsible for tracking and reconciling third-party accounts by tracking outstanding invoices and payments. Ensures accuracy of entries and resolves complex billing issues by providing specialized support to third-party agencies on behalf of the University. Communicates daily with third-party agencies regarding reconciliation and complex billing issues. Assists students with their student financial accounts relating to third-party agencies. They will receive letters indicating the third-party agency will be paying their tuition charges for the semester. The individual will maintain these letters of credit and post the intended amounts to student accounts as placeholder payments. Analyzes and reviews third-party documentation and sets up third-party account records in the Student system to assist with student accounts for allowable charges and payments. Provides customer service to students, departments and third-party agencies; answers questions, reviews forms, and refers issues to appropriate department when needed. Performs other billing-related duties as requested by supervisor(s). Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with accounting and/or bookkeeping.
