Planning Technician I/II
The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for a Planning Technician I/II to join the Development Services Center division of the Planning & Community Development Department. The associated pay grades are as follows: Planning Technician I - G.19: $42,536.00 - $65,936.00 Planning Technician II - G.22: $49,254.40 - $76,336.00 Duties of this position include, but not limited to: Communicate with the public, the development community and other City staff effectively and courteously; Create and accurately enter data in Accela records; Update and maintain digital records in accordance with Department policy and development review procedures. Format and produce accurate reports for managers and city and state agencies; Manage private development site permitting (Right of Way, Land Disturbing/Stormwater and Hauling) and associated sureties, review for construction cost estimates, and certificate of completion process. Calculate and collect inspection and permit fees. Obtain various permit and surety documents, and review form and accuracy prior to issuing permits. Coordinate with various agencies to identify surety requirements and amounts, and inspections for reduction or release of sureties. Responsible for verifying all holds are satisfied prior to permitting and prior to release of sureties. Provide daily updates to permit and surety records within Accela, tracks surety status and provides written correspondence to permittees, banking and bond companies. Input registration and termination statements into the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) General Construction Permit electronic system, and processes DEQ responses. Create reports for tracking DSC submittals and review times in Excel. The individual must have the ability to work under tight deadlines while handling multiple projects, customers, requests, and tasks; to courteously greet customers in a counter/phone receptionist environment; and interpret and provide information developed from database applications, GIS maps and development plans of various types and qualities. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on current workloads and department needs. Position requires close attention to details and accuracy.
