Security Officer
The Folger Shakespeare Library, located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, is seeking one (1) full-time Security Officer to join our dedicated Security staff. We are seeking coverage for day shifts. Day shifts take place from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Health & safety: The health and well-being of all staff, contractors, and visitors is our top priority. The Folger offers organization-funded healthcare plans for full-time staff and extensive leave options to all staff in the case of any health issues that arise. Certification and Licensing. Applicant must have a D.C. Security Officer License or secure a SO license within 60 days of employment. All applicants are required to pass a thorough background check and drug screening prior to start of employment. All Security Officers must also have certification or be able to secure certification in CPR/AED/First Aid. Compensation: This position is hourly and weekly-paid, at a starting rate of $21.50/hour, for 40 hours per week, with the occasional opportunity for additional hours. Total compensation includes an extensive benefits plan, including fully covered health, dental, and vision insurance, and a generous 403b match. Duties: Enforces security regulations for building entry, including monitoring of staff and visitors in the galleries, theater and other public areas of Library; Monitors building security panel system and sequence of operation; responds, as necessary, to internal security check-ins and patrols Library areas for security compliance. Logs staff in and out as needed for security purposes; issues and collects keys and monitors departing staff and visitors; Inspects bags or other personal property of employees and visitors to ensure proper security of Library property. Monitors movement of vendors, contractors, and caterers for daytime and evening activity and events; Ensures vendors and visitors are properly signed in and out of building; escorts vendors and contractors to restricted areas and alarms and disarms security areas as needed. Periodically, Controls and monitors Security Camera and Access control systems; Monitors Fire alarm system and responds to alarms and coordinates with responding Fire EMS personnel. Patrols and inspects exterior properties and assists with property management issues, such as deposits for keys and check-in/check-out of property guests; Enforces parking regulations for staff and visitors. Answers and transfers incoming calls as needed. Responds to directions of officer-in-charge, regarding postings, emergencies, or special assistance. Education and Experience: Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants are required to have at least one year of verifiable employment in security or safety position, preferably in a library or museum environment. Possess or be able to obtain an active and valid Security Officer License with the District of Columbia within 60 days after hire. The Folger pays for the fees associated Security Officer License. Must either hold a current CPR/First Aid/AED certification or be willing to obtain one. The Folger provides this training. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of emergency management of evacuations and shelter in place. Knowledge of managing surveillance and alarm systems is preferred but not required. Excellent customer service and communication skills, including the ability to write detailed reports, is required. Ability to utilize established procedures to resolve issues. Physical Requirements: This job operates in a professional office environment. The employee may be exposed to various components of an office environment such as fluorescent lighting, pollen, dust, recycled air, cooling fans, semi-enclosed areas, central heating, seasonal warmer temperatures and office noise. This position is highly mobile. Candidates are required to have the ability to be on their feet for extended periods, regularly use stairs, patrol outside and inside locations, and lift items up to 20lbs. Capacity to communicate, in person, or using video, phone, or electronic communication methods, in a manner which can be understood by others. This position is considered essential staff and is required to report onsite.
