The Commercial Credit Underwriter I & II is responsible for analyzing customer financial information. The Credit Underwriter is responsible for spreading customer financial data, assigning risk ratings, participating in preparation of exception reports, and complying with company and regulatory lending guidelines. In addition, the Credit Underwriter may assist loan officers (commercial and/or retail) with renewals and other portfolio management functions. The Commercial Underwriter II is responsible for an increased level of performance. This role performs at high levels of productivity, reviews a blend of small to increasing larger credits, independently and efficiently underwrites complex credits, and resolves problems independently. Essential Job Functions
Accurately complete and review financial spreads, borrowing base analysis and covenant testing. Perform basic underwriting in commercial lending, producing thorough and accurate analytical packages that include all relevant risks, trends and industry information. Collaborate with Relationship Managers, to gather and compile information for annual reviews with senior management. Analyze and assign loan ratings to credits in bank portfolio. Develop and maintain current knowledge of all applicable underwriting guidelines, internal procedures, and regulations. Responsible for compliance of assigned applications to applicable lending regulations and internal processing procedures. Maintain current knowledge of regulations and procedures. Prepare and review monthly exception reports. Become familiar with review of collateral due diligence reports. Determine course of action and actively coordinates efforts with borrowers and Loan Servicing personnel. Maintain documentation and file records in support of proposed action and outcomes until resolved. Participate in meetings and trainings as required. Required Qualifications - Level I
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related area of study; or equivalent combination of education and experience Required Qualifications - Level II
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related area of study and two or more years of related experience (commercial banking, finance, credit, etc.); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Competencies
Experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook) Basic understanding of balance sheet, leverage, risk ratios Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills Time management and ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment Preferred, but not required - Level 1
Prior experience underwriting commercial and/or retail credits a plus General banking (credit/debit) knowledge Preferred, but not required - Level 2
Three to five years underwriting experience preferred Experience underwriting large and/or complex commercial credits Specialty lending underwriting. Location Details
This position is considered a hybrid role. With management approval, an incumbent may work a combination of remote and onsite work to perform the regular responsibilities of the role. Actual schedule requirements may vary based upon business needs. Note: Job levels and hiring decisions are based upon both the business needs and the qualifications of the incumbent. In some cases, an incumbent may meet the requirements of a level 1 or 2 Underwriter but may be hired in at a lower level based upon department business needs and staffing dynamics.
