Description: The Clienttion Therapist is responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes. This is done in accordance with the prescription of the Clienttion Oncologist. The Clienttion Therapist is accountable for the simulation of patients in preparation for radiation therapy. Basic patient care and education are integral parts of this role. Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification. Explains procedures to the patients, reinforcing instructions regarding reactions to the treatment and their care. Prepares room and equipment for the patient according to the prescription, including immobilization devices and field sizes. Transfers patients as needed. Verifies the treatment measurements and beam energy in the treatment chart, noting any prescribed adjustments. Documents treatment measurements, cumulative doses, site-specific doses, treatment parameters, instructions, diagrams, photos, and all information required for documentation. Performs treatment simulation and all necessary procedures, including block fabrication. Develops x-rays and port films as needed, filing as required. Observes and inquires about any unusual reactions or events from the patients. Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness of the unit while maintaining appropriate stock levels. Completes daily, progress, and discharge documentation according to departmental standards. Accurately documents productivity information. Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives. Identifies potential areas for improvement in processes that could enhance patient satisfaction. Recognizes and takes appropriate action on potential safety hazards that may affect patients and staff. Documents patient care plans, tests, and examination results in the medical records as directed by the provider. Escalates non-routine issues, questions, and concerns to appropriate management or healthcare providers. Ensures safety checklists and quality controls are completed as required. Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization and abides by service behavior standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
