Senior WQ & Env Compliance Specialist

Responsible for organizing advanced functions and activities related to environmental management and waste water compliance management for assigned facilities. Administer programs to ensure compliance with all wastewater and environmental regulations including wastewater permit adherence, NPDES reporting and adherence, hazardous material and waste management, and air resources management. Responsible for internal staff training regarding environmental compliance and permit adherence. Assists in resolving wastewater treatment issues. $59,280 to $99,060 annually The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. Manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality and environmental regulations and company standards for assigned facilities. Conduct advanced sampling and/or analysis and special projects. Obtain, prepare, file, and maintain all regulatory reports and records. Manage required permits and make any necessary modifications and renewals. Participate in internal and external audits and represent American Water with regulators. Identify potential issues and problems and initiate responsive actions and mitigate environmental violations. Supervise, monitor, and calibrate analyzers/equipment, etc. to ensure established standards of performance and accuracy are maintained. Conduct advanced projects and prepare reports as needed. Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of federal and state environmental standards and regulations and understanding of current environmental legislation and regulations. Regulatory knowledge of proper lab analytical testing methods. Thorough processing skills and good working knowledge of computer programs, databases, and software to support specific assignments. Must understand basic principles of wastewater treatment and be able to troubleshoot systems. Process, project, and program management skills; quantitative skills (e.g., analytical, technical, problem solving); effective people management (e.g., planning, organizing, controlling, and leading teams); written and verbal communications (e.g., fluency in report writing and presentations); interpersonal skills (e.g., persuasion, negotiation, listening, cooperation, tact, diplomacy, problem solving, internal consulting). Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access. Experience/Education

Bachelor's degree in environmental science or engineering, Biology, or related field required. Five (5) years' experience in water, wastewater, and laboratory operations preferred. Experience in hazardous waste, hazardous materials, air resources, NPDES and wastewater is highly desirable. Competencies
