Central Processing Technician
This position has a varied shift depending on the surgical schedule. It also assists with environmental services as needed. We are seeking a Central Processing Technician who is a passionate team player committed to fostering a fun and safe work environment. We are seeking an individual with a solid work history and experience in sterile processing. Our CP department is responsible for providing instruments and materials support to the clinical staff of the SurgiCenter. Performs functions associated with sterile processing of instruments and supplies and preparation of surgical suites for patient care. Assists with housekeeping activities as needed and acts as a backup to the Environmental Services department. Typical shifts are Monday through Friday - 8-hour shifts: no Call, No Weekends, and No Holidays. Relationships Reports to: Clinical Director Receives guidance from: OR RN, CRNA, Surgical Technologist, Materials Manager Essential Functions and Objectives Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination. Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating & maintaining decontamination equipment. Preparing & packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization. Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Monitoring, operating, and testing sterilization equipment, including washers, ultrasonic cleaners, automatic endoscope preprocessors, autoclaves, low-temperature sterilizers, and drying cabinets. Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized. Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures. Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for surgeries, examinations, medical procedures, and medical carts. Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies. Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates. Participating in regular in-service education. Complying with the standards established by all regulatory agencies. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong attention to detail, vigilance, and meticulous care on the job. Good judgment and critical-thinking skills. Manual dexterity and the ability to handle fragile equipment. Ability to work well in a team or independently. Capability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment. Ability to work varied shifts. Self-directed; completes assignments accurately, thoroughly, and with minimal oversight. Strong emotional intelligence, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Qualifications 2 years of sterile processing experience. Working knowledge of medical terminology is required. Familiarity with healthcare equipment is required. Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles is required. Certification in Central Processing preferred - Will be required within 1 year of hire.
