Position Summary: Responsibilities include any of the following activities related to the receiving, storing, and/or shipping of materials or finished goods: ensures materials are received from proper vendors, that they are delivered to inventory, and that finished goods are packaged according to specification and shipped in a timely manner. Reviews receipt of all materials to ensure purchase orders are open and the quality of materials received is correct. Ensures the security and accountability of materials and goods with inventory control. Ensures materials are available to meet production schedules and/or products are shipped as per marketing schedules. Establishes and modifies operational methods and procedures. Maintains documentation to reflect the effectiveness and efficiency of department activities. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. Determines method of shipment. Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers. Inserts items into containers. Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes items to departments. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Experience and Education: 2-3 years of relevant experience High school degree or equivalent, plus advanced training Technical Skills: Excellent attention to detail Able to read and interpret paperwork and specifications Mastery of basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions) Problem solving abilities Ability to use calipers, micrometers, etc. Strong teamwork and communication skills to get along with co-workers and be a team player Understand and obey safety requirements Commitment to keep work area clean and free of debris Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs or more Frequently required to handle; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
