This position is responsible for all operating activities of an assigned shift in a nuclear generation station, for the assurance of safe operations, maximum efficiency and continuity of service. Cook Nuclear Plant is recruiting Senior Reactor Operators (SROs) to be part of our 2026 Initial License Training Class. Target hire date is June 2026. Essential Job Functions: 1) Direct operation of the Unit and associated support systems in compliance with applicable license, technical specification requirements and plant policies. 2) Monitor plant operating parameters and equipment status and maintain these within technical specification limits. This position has the authority to take corrective action up to and including shut down, where operating parameters exceed specification. 3) Supervise the application of the Clearance Permit System according to the applicable standards and procedures. Prepare and recommend issuance of clearance permit for the performance of plant maintenance. 4) Make regular tours of inspection of plant facilities, notify appropriate personnel of any abnormal conditions: take necessary action in emergency, and recommend maintenance as appropriate. 5) Supervise the recording, readings, and maintenance of the control room operating log book, data sheets, and recorder charts. 6) Responsible for continuously upgrading knowledge and skill for position and direct reports. 7) Coordinate operation of nuclear reactor and associated operating equipment to meet required conditions necessary to perform maintenance, surveillances and post maintenance testing. Education/Work Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent education and one of the following experience: 18 months at a comparable facility 27 months for a noncomparable facility 36 months for a nontraditional degree OR High School graduate or GED with (one of the following): 1 year licensed as an RO or SRO at a Pressurized Water Reactor 1.5 years licensed as an RO or SRO at a Boiling Water Reactor 1.5 years qualified as Navy Reactor Operator, Engineering Officer of the Watch/Propulsion Plant Watch Officer, Engineering Watch Supervisor/Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor Required Licenses/Certifications: Licensed by NRC as Senior Reactor Operator Other Requirements: 1. Strong interpersonal skills. 2. Effective writing and verbal communication skills. 3. Demonstrated leadership ability. 4. Broad knowledge of nuclear standards and nuclear policies, practices and procedures relating to quality assurance. Physical Demands: 1) May perform walk downs in plant environment which may include exposure to: heat, cold, noise, and radiation exposure. Compensation Data: Compensation Grade: SP20-009 Compensation Range: $112,869.00-146,730.50 USD The Physical Demand Level for this job is: S Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
