This critical role ensures the proper decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical supplies. Ideal candidates will bring strong technical expertise, a commitment to patient safety, and the ability to perform independently in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Decontamination & Cleaning
- Sort, disassemble, and decontaminate surgical instruments according to established protocols
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection control procedures
- Operate washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and cart washers
- Assemble instrument trays following detailed count sheets and quality standards
- Inspect, wrap, and label surgical instruments accurately
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (Steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris I)
- Conduct and record biological and chemical indicator tests
- Store sterile items appropriately, ensuring sterility and accessibility
- Respond promptly to instrumentation and supply requests from clinical departments
- Support surgical procedures by following physician preference cards for setups
- Maintain adequate inventory and restock supplies as needed
- Report equipment malfunctions and assist in routine maintenance checks
- Keep workspaces clean, organized, and compliant with safety protocols
- Assist in training new staff and participating in onboarding activities
- Participate in the department's on-call rotation as required
- Adhere to best practices and standards from AAMI, AORN, OSHA, and CDC
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Certification in sterile processing (CRCST or CBSPD) preferred
- 1-2 years of experience in hospital sterile processing or surgical services (Preferred)
- Proficient in using sterilization and decontamination equipment
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and maintain focus in a dynamic environment
