Job Summary:

This role involves verifying transport and patient data, ensuring compliant coding and billing according to payer claims specifications and documentation. Responsibilities include demographic and medical coverage verification, identifying disparities in transport details, reviewing vehicle types, locations, mileage, and dates, and assigning appropriate Level of Service and Diagnosis Codes to ambulance claims. The position also involves document retrieval, professional communication with customers, call centers, and facility Patient Financial Services staff. Candidates should have 2-5 years of medical billing and claim submission experience, be highly detail-oriented, and capable of working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Essential Functions:
  1. Verify accurate data entry by communication/dispatch specialists and medical clinicians, including patient locations, mileage, and demographics.
  2. Document all activities thoroughly in patient account notes.
  3. Retrieve and interpret federal and industry-standard signature documents to ensure compliant billing and clean claim submissions.
  4. Enter patient demographic information and charges into billing software for claims and financial reporting.
  5. Conduct sponsor review investigations to identify and confirm third-party liabilities and insurance coverages.
  6. Interact with leadership, customers, crew members, law enforcement, insurance companies, patients, and hospital systems to gather additional information as needed.
  7. Perform Medicare secondary payor reviews, coordinate benefits, and generate invoices as required.
  8. Apply the correct level of service based on the scope of practice.
  9. Assign accurate diagnosis codes, ensuring specificity and compliance with payor guidelines.
  10. Apply necessary modifiers for locations and payor requirements.
  11. Initiate insurance billing transactions, transmit claims electronically, or prepare claim packets per payer requirements.
  12. Screen claims for compliance with payer guidelines and form requirements.
  13. Assist with billing and collection tasks as needed.
  14. Provide backup support for client financial liaison duties.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24 to $27, depending on location, experience, education, and skills.
