JOB SUMMARYThe position of Cardiology Echo Tech undertakes a range of functions under the supervision of the Cardiology Supervisor. The Echo Tech is a Registered Cardiac Sonographer. He/she obtains transthorasic echocardiograms as ordered by the physician, and per instructions of the cardiologist. He/she uses cardiac ultrasound to obtain cardiac images for the systematic measurements, views, and dimensions of the heart structures. Echo Tech obtains comprehensive, systematic data of the heart, completing a clinically relevant report for interpretation by the cardiologistJOB REQUIREMENTSMinimum EducationMust be a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, RCS, RDCSMinimum Work ExperienceMinimum of 5 years experience in Adult and Pediatric Echocardiography preferredPrior experience preferred in Cardiac Stress Test Echocardiography, but will train on the job.Required SkillsThrough knowledge in cardiology procedures within scope of responsibility.FUNCTIONAL DEMANDSPhysical RequirementsSitting - 16-31%Walking - 16-31%Standing - 16-31%Bending/Squatting - 16-31%Climbing/Kneeling - 1-15%Twisting - 16-31%Visual and Hearing RequirementsMust be able to see with corrective eyewear if needed.Must be able to hear clearly with assistance if needed.Physical/Environmental requirementsLifting - 0 -50 lbs, 50 or more with assistanceCarrying - 0- 50 lbs, 50 or more with assistancePulling - Up to 100 lbsPushing - Up to 100 lbsOSHAMinimal potential for direct exposure.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSConfers with patients and/or family members to gather pertinent information including history of heart problems, current medication and documents in patient charts.Provides patient education on procedure and allows opportunity for questions and reassurance.Instructs and assists patients in assuming necessary positions for required exposure to ultrasonic waves.Measures and records dimensions of heart structures according to ASE guidelines.Review results, eliminates from consideration all artifacts, and types and proofreads reports, ensuring information recorded is complete and accurate.After review, completes the Preliminary Report in an accurate and legible manner for interpretation by the cardiologist.Maintains equipment in clean and proper working order and replenishes supplies as necessary.Compete Echocardiogram in an accurate and timely manner.Complete Stress Echocardiogram, obtains ultrasound images pre and post in a timely manner, and assists with preparation.Contrast Echo, obtains ultrasound images, assists with prep.Complete Dobutamine stress Echo, obtains ultrasound images pre and post in a timely manner, and assists with prep.Assist Cardiologist and RN with Transesophageal Echocardiogram.Demonstrates proper probe checks, cleaning and storage of TEE probe.Performs education and application of 24-hour Holter monitor.Completes a minimum of 10 pediatric Echos.Patient Population Served-Pediatrics/Adolescent/Adult/GeriatricDemonstrates competency and knowledge of appropriate equipment for patient population served.Demonstrates appropriate awareness for suspected abuse/neglect for patient population served and takes measures to report them according to protocol.Identifies and plans for appropriate safety precautions to be taken to prevent injury in the patient population served.Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate technique to obtain vital signs and is able to interpret norms for the patient population served.Demonstrates knowledge of location and use of emergency equipment NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPerforms other duties as assigned.Completes department credentialing requirements annually which includes rhythm/arrhythmia recognition exam.Maintains current in CPR.Completes hospital required education.Attend and participates in scheduled Cardiology staff meetings.
