Our Mission

Horizons for Homeless Children is a local non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of young homeless children in Massachusetts and helping their families succeed by providing high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services. To support our mission, we also advocate on behalf of young children, train educators and human services providers, and provide research on the impact of early education on homeless children.

Summary of Position

The Assistant Director (AD) of Family Partnerships is responsible for the daily operations of the Family Partnerships Program (FPP), including direct supervision of the Family Coaching Specialists. The AD of Family Partnerships works closely with the Executive Director of Family Partnerships and the FPP Operations Manager to ensure the provision of high-quality supportive coaching services to Horizons parents and families.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Program Management

  • Provides ongoing supervision, consultation, and coaching to all Family Coaching Specialists

  • Identifies Coaches strengths and areas for further professional development

  • Works with Coaches to develop and monitor individualized professional development goals in the PayCom system

  • Conducts annual performance reviews and addresses performance concerns in a timely manner

  • In collaboration with ED of FPP, establish and implement department onboarding process and manual

  • In conjunction with the ED of Family Partnerships, designs and implements training to enhance the Coaches mobility coaching skills

  • Leads weekly FPP team meetings

  • Partners with Early Education leadership team to ensure effective implementation of Horizons two-generation approach

  • Attends weekly Center Program Team meetings

  • Reviews and approves time-off requests, invoices, and credit card reports

  • Hires, trains, and supervises interns

Family Support:

  • Under the guidance of the ED of Family Partnerships, leads FPPs family engagement strategy

  • In conjunction with FPP Operations Manager and ED of Family Partnerships, develops a diverse and well-coordinated set of workshops, groups, and classes for Horizons parents

  • Serves as Staff Advisor to Parent Council and Parent Council Leadership Team

  • Supports Coaches with individual parent meetings as needed (e.g. attendance concerns, program expectations, conflicts, etc.)

  • Provides practical course of action to address parent challenges

  • Oversees communication with families, including writing messages regarding new policies and procedures to be sent by mass text to parents

Data Management

  • In conjunction with the FPP Operations Manager and Data Analytics Team, monitors data quality and identifies strategies to improve data integrity

  • Reviews pending Mobility Goals to ensure that they meet the SMART criteria and are consistent with the Horizons Progressive Recognition System

  • Shares data back to the FPP team to support ongoing program improvement

  • In collaboration with ED of Family Partnerships and Data Analytics Team, uses data to drive program improvement and craft external messages about program impact

Partnerships

  • Oversees collaborations with external partners (e.g. JVS, MassHire, El Centro, EDEN, FAHST, etc.) and works with FPP Operations Manager on logistics of implementation

  • Works with ED of Family Partnerships to identify and address gaps in in organizational patnerships

Workspace

  • This is a 40-hour-a-week, full-time position. The work you will perform is somewhat active, taking place at a desk in a cubicle in an office sitting, working alongside others. You will also on occasion conduct home visits, accompany families to off-site appointments, and meet with families on-site.

  • You can expect to work onsite 4 days in the office and 1 day, work from home. There will be occasional evening or weekend events with advanced planning and notice. There is a large staff room with indoor and outdoor space for breaks as well as a designated quiet room. Our beautiful office space is located: Edgerley Family Horizons Center at 1785 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA.

  • This position requires the employee to comply with all applicable federal, state, local and company policy concerning immunizations, employment physical/screening, Background record check and health and safety training.

Starting salary range, compensation, and benefits

$86,000 - 92,500 is the starting salary range for our Assistant Director level roles. Your starting salary will fall within that range depending on your competencies, experience, and skillset.

Your total compensation package includes the following benefits:

  • Health coverage options designed to be as comprehensive and affordable for you as possible, with Horizons covering between 70-75% of premiums (a value that ranges from an additional $8,000 20,000 per year based on your enrollment choices).

  • While you have a choice between an HMO and PPO plan for medical coverage, most employees pay $99.89 for individual, $199.79 for 2-person, or $314.21 for family coverage per bi weekly paycheck and never pay more than $300 for individual or $600 for 2-person/family toward deductibles.

  • Paid leave coverage is offered through Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave. Horizons covers both medical and family contributions at 60% (100% for employees who earn less than $50,000 annually) with up to 26 weeks of paid leave available based on eligibility and approval.

  • Horizons additionally offers 1 week for paid parental leave for welcoming a child into your family through birth, foster, or adoption, that often covers the waiting period for PFML to begin.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree required.

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience

  • 3-6 years experience in human/social services directly working with families, including coaching and/or mentorship.

  • Experience with homeless and/or at-risk populations, and knowledge of trauma-informed care.

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole required.

  • Demonstrated excellence in supervision, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead specific work projects with significant autonomy, guiding operations and making informed decisions to drive outcomes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bilingual in either Spanish and English or Haitian Creoleand English required.

  • Ability to leverage technical skills to enhance team productivity, communication, and process improvement.

  • Supervisory skills with a strengths-based and mutual respect approach with the ability to manage workloads, provide appropriate support, and address professional development needs.

  • Ability to collaborate and solve problems using a team approach.

  • Priority will be given to individuals who have had previous experience working with homeless children and families, multi-ethnic urban families, or with families at risk.
