Payroll Manager Job Summary
SmartStop Self Storage is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Payroll Manager to join our team. This position reports to the Director of Accounting and is responsible for all aspects of payroll processing for approximately 650 employees in 24 states in the US and four provinces in Canada. This role is required to be on-site in our beautiful Ladera Ranch office.
Salary range: starting at $110,000 depending on experience + discretionary annual bonus.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities for the Payroll Manager
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of all payroll transactions across 24 states including but not limited to: salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, bonus payments, stock payments and other deductions.
- Responsible for managing vendor for the Canadian employees under a Managed Payroll system.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates, in direct collaboration with the Human Resources Dept.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, ad local payroll wage and hour laws and best practices; manages on-going impact to internal policies and procedures.
- Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors and requesting entities and makes improvements to processes.
- Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders to address complaints, support information requests, resolve problems/issues and implement changes, driving continuous process improvements. Maintains confidentiality of any payroll, private employee information and any company proprietary information and ensures payroll information is secure.
- Implements and maintains policies and procedures to support standardization of payroll processing.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Qualifications Needed
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources or related field required.
- Minimum 3 years of payroll experience.
- Must have recent experience utilizing ADP Workforce Now.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills a must.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well independently, while collaborating with other team members in Accounting, Finance and Human Resources.
