Has total understanding of patient safety and histological techniques necessary to guarantee complete patient safety and anonymity.Histologist/Histotechnologist Job Responsibilities: Maintains and operates equipment essential for Histology Section of Clinical Lab according to manufacturer and laboratory procedures. Accurately identifies patient samples and accessions them into Pathology Information System using right account numbers and tissue alpha codes. Responsible for proper storage of both blocks and slides, once pathologist completes microscopic exam. Uses and disposes of hazardous materials as stated in laboratory policies and State and Federal Guidelines (including surgical specimens/autopsy specimens). Runs control slides and does not release slides until control material is examined by histologist to verify quality of staining procedure. Accessions and prepares cytologic material as indicated by specimen type. This is inclusive of slide preparation and staining for Thin Prep pap tests and slide/cell block preparation and staining of all Non-Gyn specimens received into the lab.Histologist/Histotechnologist Education and Experience Requirements:Education: ASCP eligible.Experience: 5 years of experience in a hospital histology lab preferred.Histologist/Histotechnologist Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Applies principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Interprets and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form. Deals with several abstract and concrete variables. Able to examine and evaluate data and present alternative actions. Can give and receive assignments and or directions to and from hospital staff. Needs to use body or appropriate tools and work aids to work, move, guide or place objects or materials in situations where ultimate responsibility for the attainment of standards occur and selection of appropriate tools, objects or materials and the adjustment of the tools to the task requiring exercise of considerable judgment. Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including but not limited to, order entry, inquiry and specimen tracking. Excellent communication skills including telephone, written correspondence and speaking. Knowledge of OSHA and those regulations relating to the use of hazardous chemicals in the histology laboratory. Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.Why Choose Day Kimball Health?
