DescriptionYour Schedule: Status: Full-Time (80 hours per pay)Shift: Day ShiftMain Function:We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Histology Tech / Grossing Assistant to join our team. This dual-role position is critical to the accurate and efficient processing of anatomic pathology specimens. As a Grossing Assistant, you will work under the supervision of the Pathologist and/or Medical Director to accession and prepare specimens. As a Histotechnologist, you will be responsible for preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination. Attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and accurate specimen handling are essential.What You'll Do:Receive and accession anatomic pathology specimens following lab protocolsDictate gross descriptions using approved formatsFlag unexpected morphological changes for Pathologist reviewSelect and submit tissue for further processingPrepare and send slides and tissues for consultation or external testingLog and register specimens using the laboratory information systemMaintain specimen integrity through accurate labeling and documentationEmbed, cut, stain, and cover-slip tissue samples per histological and cytological standardsAssist with frozen sections and perform special and immunohistochemical staining as directedOperate and troubleshoot laboratory equipmentUse appropriate PPE and engineering controls when handling xylene, formalin, and other hazardous materialsEnsure compliance with infection control, safety, and biohazard waste protocolsMaintain and update laboratory procedure manualsTrain and rotate new and current staff in required dutiesProvide age-appropriate care and services for all patient demographicsWhat We're Looking For:Excellent attention to detail and organizational skillsStrong communication skills with a courteous and professional demeanorAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a teamComfortable with continuous learning and adapting to procedural updatesWillingness to accept varied assignments, including shift changes and overtime as neededEducation and Experience:Required: Associate's degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Technician, Clinical Laboratory Technology, or Histological Technician from a NYSDOE-registered or equivalent programLicensure: Must possess a valid NYSDOE license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician, Clinical Laboratory Technologist, or Histological Technician - or provide proof of application for licensurePreferred: Previous experience as a Grossing Assistant or related experience/education (e.g., anatomy coursework)Physical Requirements:Moderate to heavy lifting, occasionally without assistanceModerate reachingOccasional prolonged standing and walkingWork performed in a clinical laboratory environmentExposure Category:Category I - Tasks may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.Additional Requirements:CPR certification is not requiredAnnual participation in mandatory education and continuing education (minimum 12 hours/year)Must adhere to all Arnot Health and Laboratory policies, including Corporate Compliance and patient privacy standards
