Job DescriptionUnder general direction, as a Laboratory Specimen Processor you will be responsible for labeling specimens, assuring specimens are in the appropriate tube(s), entering specimen test orders accurately into the laboratory information system, and registering patients for all sections of the laboratory in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures and prep samples to be sent to other labs in accordance with the collection preparation and transport instructions provided by the receiving labs. You will provide laboratory support information, specimen results and reports for clients of Stamford Hospital.ResponsibilitiesMAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Accurately orders all tests in the laboratory information system2. Accurately accession all PAP and Pathology samples.3. Performs all LIS functions relative to the scope of his/her responsibility to include label generation, report generation, reference lab manifests, patient registration, etc.4. Complete Registration.5. Orders tests accurately and Labels specimens assuring proper identification using lean principles.6. Prepares and stores samples for internal laboratory testing and for reference laboratory testing maintaining appropriate patient identification, as well as adhering to temperature and stability requirements as defined by test procedure or reference lab.7. Receives and screens incoming calls. Directs calls to the appropriate person as well as preparing fax reports while maintaining HIPPA privacy8. Prepare and Document samples requested by the Medical Examiner/Courts, ensuring that the right documentation is received with photo ID.9. Performs other duties to maintain a clean, organized, working environment. Ancillary duties may include filing, requisition distribution, supply distribution, record maintenance, stocking supplies, etc.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:- High School Diploma or equivalency required; higher education strongly preferred.- Medical and /or laboratory terminology strongly preferred.- Excellent communication skills and customer service skills- Basic computer skills preferred.
