BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Knowledge of patient positioning, breathing techniques, and the direction for positioning of the transducer to obtain the best visualization of cardiac structures. - Proficient in recognizing abnormalities in structure and function, distinguishing normal from abnormal findings, and recognizing imaging artifacts. - Knowledge of gross and sectional anatomy. - Fluent in English, with the ability to write, read, comprehend, and speak. - Basic computer knowledge, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsing. - Proficient in working with computers and software-driven testing machines and digital archive systems. Description: To provide high-quality ultrasound images of the heart and great vessels for adult patients. Provide technical assistance with exercise and non-exercise stress testing. Handle other duties as required or assigned. Perform high-quality two-dimensional ultrasound studies of the heart and great vessels. Identify EKG abnormalities and/or arrhythmias. Utilize knowledge of age-specific needs of patients in everyday duties and responsibilities. Understand complementary imaging and/or Doppler techniques. Demonstrate use of M-Mode technique for measuring cardiac dimensions. Estimate the severity of valvular insufficiencies. Assess blood flow through the heart, including increased velocities, stenosis, regurgitations, and shunts. Use contrast echocardiography in cases of suboptimal two-dimensional and color flow. Evaluate left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions. Document wall motion abnormalities. Recognize congenital heart malformations, acquired pathologies, and possible surgical outcomes. Complete studies according to updated protocols. Present additional views, calculations, and measurements when necessary. Use a segmental approach while obtaining images from four echocardiographic windows. Operate ultrasound equipment, adjusting controls that affect data quality. Select the appropriate transducer for optimal resolution and adequate penetration. Obtain, review, and document pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data. Correlate clinical history with examination. Consult with cardiologists for clarification as needed. Monitor, record, charge, and communicate using a computerized documentation system. Prepare, instruct, assist patients, and produce images in a timely manner for stress echocardiograms. Assist in performing transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE). Communicate results to the cardiologist and respond to questions promptly. Maintain monthly correlation studies and statistics. Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and report equipment failures. Participate in mobile echo/vascular service regionally. Participate in callback rotation. Assist in performing functional, pharmacological, and echocardiography stress testing. Document procedures accurately. Assess patients and their physical abilities to perform tests accurately. Interpret and clarify physician's orders accurately. Provide thorough assessments of patients in crisis situations. Notify physicians when necessary. Display proficiency in recognizing lethal arrhythmias. Complete quarterly competency assessments in various areas.
