Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the VCU Division of SurgicalOncology is to both provide the Mid-Atlantic's most advanced, patient-oriented,cost-effective and safe surgical oncology services, as well as to create thefinest training environment for the region's future Surgical OncologySpecialists. The division is committed to enhance diversityamong its faculty, staff, and students.Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology is recruiting for an open rank, early- to mid-careercollateral, non-tenure track facultyposition in the field of surgical oncology, endocrine surgery. This position will be expected to develop a robust clinical practice at the VCU Medical Center as well as our community satellite locations. Thefaculty member will support the division's expanding efforts toprovide excellent oncology surgical support to many of our current regionaloutreach programs, including Massey Cancer Center. Finally, the faculty member will supportthe division's commitment to teaching surgery residents and, fellows as well asVCU medical students. Position Responsibilities: Teaching: The faculty member will haveteaching responsibilities in surgical oncology with an emphasis on endocrine surgery. Research: The faculty member must participate in clinical and/or basicscience research relevant to the expanding field of endocrine surgery. Research in the field of cancer disparities, translationaloncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or cancer genomics would be encouraged. A record of publication inrefereed journals or presentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty member will be expected to developinterdisciplinary collaborations within VCU's Massey Cancer Center, Medical Oncologyand Radiation Oncology to achieve these goals. Service: The faculty member will serve onUniversity, Health System, and departmental committees as requested byleadership. They will assist with therecruitment, training, and placement of residents and fellows among the variedspecialties outlines above. Clinical: Clinical responsibility will be in the care of the surgical oncology patients on the MCV campus of VCU Health System as well as community outreach satellitelocation(s). They will be responsiblefor the development of an active surgical practice, with the support of the division and department's leadership.
