Position Summary:

The Transportation Clerk is responsible for ensuring the safe, timely and professional passage of shipments from shipper to consignee by assigning contracted carriers chosen by the Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Follow Carrier Routing and Load Tendering Instructions for every truckload shipment (FTL) processed. May handle less then truck load (LTL) shipments as required. Direct contact with carrier dispatch and drivers including customer care to answer shipment inquiries and communicate shipment status. Confirms and processes orders and bills of lading with corresponding information and rates provided by the Supervisor or Manager. Provides timely communication to customers and personnel on all aspects of shipment status Point of contact for carriers dispatch departments (provides customer service and load details including schedule carrier pick-ups) Documentation of daily shipments with a log of time of arrival, time of load and time of shipping. Appointment setting Create, update and close out all entries in the transportation management system. Able to follow written instruction, write clearly, and communicate well at all level. Knowledge with Forwarding, Brokerage, and a 3PL environment preferred Qualification Requirements:

Proficiency in MS Office Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Brokerage, Freight Forwarder, 3PL Training strongly preferred Working knowledge of DOT regulations pertaining to brokering, shipping and receiving freight Knowledge of transportation documentation Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Strong interpersonal skills Problem solving in standardized situations Strong analytical skills, as well as, independent thinking/reasoning ability Demonstrate professional image in the work environment, both personal and professional Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent, required. Mathematical Skills:

High School equivalent. Strong mathematical/statistical analysis knowledge required Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

Other Skills and Abilities:

Proficiency in computer skills; general knowledge of Word, Excel and database systems General office equipment usage

Computer use requires good vision and ability to use keyboard. Ability to manipulate data on computer screen. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Regular use of hands, fingers and eyes required. Ability to communicate effectively required. Some travel maybe required.

A general warehouse/distribution environment with moderate power lifts equipment operations. The office environment is professional. Noise level quiet to moderate. Exposure to office machines, phones, faxes, computers and copiers.
