Vice President of Marketing Communications & Live Events
The Bulwark —one of the most dynamic news outlets in the country—is looking for an associate producer to support our fast-growing video and digital team. This position requires an entrepreneurial, hard charging individual who is passionate about political news and current events. The role demands the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple deadlines, and think creatively about how to deliver news in new mediums. Preference will be given to those willing to work in our offices in Washington, DC. The Bulwark
is home to Tim Miller, Sarah Longwell, Jonathan V. Last, Bill Kristol, and many other leading voices in the pro-democracy movement. It is dedicated to providing political analysis and reporting free from partisan constraints or corporate interests. It publishes dozens of newsletters, podcasts, and video content from a variety of viewpoints, and reaches millions of people across all major platforms. Responsibilities: Assist in compiling research and data for on air talent. Gather information on breaking news stories. Help formulate scripts and show outlines. Ensure that all deliverables meet the highest standards of quality. Provide consistent support by managing calendars and schedules. Help book travel, guests, and meetings when necessary. Anticipate upcoming needs. Manage tech connections for guests, conduct pre-interviews, and secure facilities for remote interviews, as needed. Maintain and process expense reports. Locate video and soundbites and receive legal permission for use, if needed. Act as a point of contact for talent for external and internal contacts. Collaborate with various teams to ensure that the post-production process moves smoothly. Optimize the organization’s digital and subscriber reach. Help with the PR efforts. Pitch guest and segment ideas. Qualifications: A willingness to learn new tools and skills Ability to work collaboratively with various teams to achieve organizational goals in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Ability to handle a fast paced work schedule, prioritizing tasks, especially in breaking news situations A proactive approach to troubleshooting problems Demonstrated writing skills and knowledge of current events, politics, and pop culture Strong research skills and news judgment Insightful and constant knowledge of social media tools such as Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Reddit, and other important platforms Excellent communication and interpersonal skills At least one year of news production experience or internship experience in a newsroom Flexibility to work unconventional hours in a 24-hour news environment, including weekends, overnights, or holidays Strong sense of project ownership and excitement for being an integral part of a growing organization Strong editorial judgment and newsgathering skills, with the ability to isolate the most salient pieces of a long-form discussion Seniority level
