DESCRIPTION:

Under close supervision, performs routine, repetitive clerical work involving the processing of documents in a variety of functions; formats and key enters/types correspondence, documents, reports, charts and other materials on a computer console, typewriter, or other key entry device used by the agency; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Key enters or types a variety of documents (letters, reports, schedules, forms, charts, tables, contracts, case records, legal documents, etc.) from handwritten drafts, copy, or recorded material, following prescribed formats. Proofreads, edits, and corrects documents to ensure typographical, spelling, and grammatical accuracy. Utilizes printers and software such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, and desktop publishing to produce and format documents. Receives, reviews, verifies, and processes applications, forms, reports, and other documents for completeness and accuracy; refers problems to a supervisor when needed. Opens, sorts, stamps, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail; maintains prepared mailing lists and wraps packages for shipment. Provides general, routine information in person or by phone; refers complex inquiries to appropriate staff. Compiles and tabulates information or numerical data; prepares simple charts and assists in report preparation. Maintains records and files; schedules administrative proceedings and processes scheduling changes. Operates and performs basic maintenance on office machines such as keyboards, printers, copiers, fax machines, calculators, and labeling or stamping machines. Assists in requisitioning, storing, and distributing office supplies. Will be required to learn to use agency-specific electronic or manual recordkeeping systems. REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate will be required to demonstrate proficiency in keyboarding or typing and must be familiar with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word. Must be willing to assist other administrative/clerical divisions within Public Works. Must be willing to travel between different county buildings. LICENSE:

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of standard office routines, equipment, and practices. Ability to operate keyboards and related equipment with speed and accuracy to produce a variety of documents. Ability to format, prepare, and proofread documents, charts, and forms. Ability to follow oral and written directions and apply established office procedures. Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, and perform tasks accurately. Ability to make basic arithmetic calculations and tabulations. Ability to work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public. Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance on office equipment.

SCHEDULE: Not to exceed 20 hours per week

RATE: $20.16 per hour
