Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Machine Learning Engineer to join our team, focusing on advanced AI/ML solutions for weapon system mission planning and aerospace applications. This role combines cutting-edge machine learning research with critical defense applications and complex systems modeling. The ideal candidate will drive the development of intelligent systems that enhance mission planning capabilities while working on challenging real-world problems in the aerospace and defense domain.
Key Responsibilities
Research & Development
Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for weapon system mission planning and optimization
Implement reinforcement learning algorithms for autonomous decision-making in complex operational environments
Build and optimize neural networks for trajectory planning, threat assessment, and resource allocation
Develop regression models and statistical approaches for performance prediction and system analysis including uncertainty quantification
Data Engineering & Analysis
Conduct comprehensive data analysis to extract insights from aerospace and defense datasets
Design and execute experiments to validate model performance and generate training data
Create robust data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and validating mission-critical data
Perform modeling and simulation studies to support system design and operational planning
Technical Implementation
Design machine learning solutions to address complex real-world defense problems
Implement scalable ML solutions using Python and state-of-the-art frameworks
Leverage in-house and industry standard tools to simulate mission operations
Collaborate with systems engineers and domain experts to develop AI/ML capabilities for defense systems
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field
2+ years professional experience in machine learning engineering using Python
Knowledge of regression modeling, statistical analysis, and experimental design
Understanding of data generation techniques and synthetic data creation
Must be a U.S. citizen for consideration
Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ML and RL packages such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost, scikit-learn, stable baselines, and OpenAI Gym
Experience with data processing and analysis tools such as pandas, NumPy, scipy, and JMP
Experience with agent-based modeling software like AFSIM and STK
Knowledge of weapon systems, military operations, or defense planning processes
Experience with Git version control and collaborative development workflows
Familiarity with Linux and high-performance computing workflows
Experience in modeling and simulation for complex systems
Knowledge of path planning and obstacle avoidance algorithms such as Dubin's curves and RRT methods
Background in operations research, optimization, or control systems
Strong technical writing and presentation skills including high-dimensional data visualization
