We currently have an opening for a
Construction Inspector IV
in our Transportation division to work on roadway, bridge, and transit-related construction projects in the Washington, DC Metro area. Responsibilities: Perform construction inspection activities on roadway, bridge, and transit-related projects. Monitor contractor compliance with plans and specifications. Ensure contractor adherence to safety standards. Check and verify layouts. Read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications. Perform (QC) and/or monitor (QA) on-site material testing and sampling. Measure and document completed quantities of work. Prepare daily inspection reports. Serve as the lead or sole inspector for small projects (construction value of $5M or less). Assist Project Manager and Resident Engineer with other field tasks as needed. Assignments include roadway, bridge, and local transit projects. This role involves frequent communication with engineers, agency personnel, contractors, local government, utility companies, and the public to coordinate and resolve issues. The position reports to a Project Manager and/or Resident Engineer and may include additional responsibilities. Candidate must have a personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record. Daily travel to project sites is required; overnight travel is limited. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, traverse rough terrain, and work outdoors in various weather conditions. Night and weekend work may be required. Requirements: Minimum 8 years of construction management or CEI experience with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field from an ABET-accredited university. Certifications required within 6 months of employment (at no cost to the candidate): Concrete Field (VDOT, ACI Conc. Field Level I, or NICET Level II) Soil & Aggregate Compaction (VDOT or NICET Level II) Asphalt Field Level I & II (VDOT) Pavement Marking (VDOT) Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector (Virginia DEQ) Stormwater Management Inspector (Virginia DEQ) Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control & Flagger (VDOT) 30 Hour OSHA Safety Training (OSHA) Desired Skills: Experience with VDOT and DDOT standards and specifications. Knowledge of local utility agencies around DC. Transit or freight rail experience (e.g., WMATA, VRE, CSX, Norfolk Southern). Environmental permit compliance inspection experience, including SWPPP, Pollution Prevention, Spill Containment, C-107, VDOT’s VSMP, ESCCC, and MS4 programs.
