CONVERGENT BIOSCIENCES & TECH (IN-CBTI-IUINA)
The Convergent Bioscience and Technology Institute (CBATI) drives interdisciplinary bioscience and technology research and collaboration with industry partners in pursuit of discoveries ranging from wearable and implantable medical devices and sensors to the advanced detection of biomarkers and AI-enabled drug discovery and delivery. With a goal of quickly delivering IU health and sciences innovations from the bench to bedside, the institute will aim to stimulate substantial growth in the disclosure and licensing of inventions, discoveries and innovations, as well as industry partnerships and IU-launched startup companies.

The Convergent Bioscience and Technology Institute (CBATI) at Indiana University Indianapolis seeks a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as its Managing Director. This senior administrative role will be instrumental in advancing CBATI's mission to foster innovation and convergence in bioscience and technology. The Managing Director will work closely with the Executive Director to oversee institute operations, manage staff, and establish robust partnerships with faculty, industry, and other stakeholders.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Collaborates with Dr. Lin to develop and implement a 5-year strategic development plan for CBATI. Provides operational oversight and manages institute staff to ensure alignment with CBATI's goals. Facilitates faculty and researcher hiring processes, coordinating closely with academic units. Oversees funded grants and contracts, from award acceptance to submission of final reports. Provides administrative support for reporting requirements, budgets, and compliance with funding agency regulations. Serves as CBATI's primary liaison within Indiana University systems to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. Builds and maintains outreach programs to connect CBATI with industrial partners and potential collaborators. Develops marketing tools and strategies, including newsletters, promotional materials, and annual reports. Represents CBATI at conferences, workshops, and public forums to enhance visibility and engagement. Plans and executes CBATI-hosted events, workshops, and seminars to promote research and collaboration. Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of CBATI initiatives.
General Responsibilities
Provides day-to-day operational management of support staff. Establishes short-term operational objectives. Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency. Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed. Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff. Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and/or assigned staff. Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve user support operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff. Keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
